Trainer M Bobby leading Little Athena (S R Santosh Kumar Up), winner of The Star Supreme Cup

M.Bobby trained Little Athena (Eljohar-Desirable) produced a powerful gallop down the final stretch en-route to its maiden victory in the Star Supreme Cup which featured the day’s races at Mysore. The 4 year old filly had run fifteen races before going into this one but had not seen the winning post although she had made it to the frame in seven of them.

Jazzbythebay was withdrawn on veterinary grounds near the starting gates and the reduced field of ten horses faced the starter. Indian Hero and Flirting King got to the front early in the race and disputed the lead. Bandito had settled well in third while Little Athena raced in mid-field. As they traversed the final turn, Bandito was pulled out and the youngster moved swiftly to get to the front. Little Athena started to improve steadily around the field and with an authoritative gallop sped past Bandito to earn her first corn bill. Bandito finished second ahead of Ayman and Mother Ewa.

Trainer C.D.Monnappa was the only professional to score a double.  Yamas and Commanding Heights were the two victors from the stable. Commanding Heights (Hymn-Bumper to Bumper) accelerated in fine fashion to win the Nethravathi Plate in a good timing. Travelling fourth behind Daring Dynamite, Chestnut Charmer and Mom in Law, Commanding Heights made progress quickly to make a bid on the extreme outside as they straightened up. Inside the last furlong, Commanding Heights got stronger and surged forward to register a fine win. Chestnut Charmer came up fast, diminishing the lead but fell short by three parts of a length. Miyarprincess and Mom in Law filled the frame.

Yamas (Pennine Ridge-Sober), which had found one better in Greenbro in its previous run about three weeks ago, won the Girinagara Plate with a measure of comfort. Rashida called the shots till entering the straight and weakened. Jockey D.Gnaneshwar drove Yamas to take charge on top of the straight and stayed well to be a clear two lengths in front of Ohiyesa at the finish. Indian Royalty was withdrawn before the race.

Oscar Sparkler (Warrshan-Miss Rising) from C.V.G.K.Kishore’s stables, having mended its gate manners, jumped out smartly and went to lead the field straight away at start. Into the final run on the home straight, The Alchemist started to make its bid but Oscar Sparkler kicked on well despite shifting out and in, to win by a length. Trevor, the rider of The Alchemist lodged an objection citing interference by the winner and that was overruled by the stewards. Born Electric was a non-starter in the race.

Zareer Darashah trained Sky High (Acclamation-Cois Cuain), a measure of consistency, having placed in eight of the nine starts, made every pole a winning one in the Bannerghatta Plate. The trainer opting for a 4 kilograms allowance with apprentice M.D.Paswan astride, Sky High went to the front at start and was a clear three lengths ahead of the rest as the field approached the last 600 metres. On the final straight, Sand Dune started to move up strongly but could only lessen the margin and finish second. Heavenly Divas and Miss International finished third and fourth respectively, in a close finish. Caldera and Alizadeh were withdrawn before the start of the race.

The 4 year old Guapo (Senure-Athymia) which had not raced for almost eight months and still a maiden was backed to the exclusion of the other runners in the Tapathi Plate, the concluding race of the day. Guapo set out on a start to finish mission and comfortably cleared the seven furlongs trip with no threat emerging from behind. Rich Rogue, Star And Stripes and Oblique raced in that order all through the race behind Guapo and went past the winning post to be second, third and fourth respectively, resembling a school day march past parade.
