Mr K K Belliappa & trainer C D Monnappa leading Dance Of A General (Bhanu Pratap Singh Up), winner of The Varahi Cup

C.D.Monnappa trained Dance of a General (Hurricane Centre-Valencia) bounced back to winning ways with a pounding win in the Varahi Cup, which was the main event of the day’s card of eight races on Wednesday. Monnappa saddled a double on the day having led in Zamindar earlier, to join C.V.G.K.Kishore at top in the trainer’s tally. Dance of a General had moved to be a close second behind Crisp as the field straightened up for the final run while Brave Assault and God is Great started to gain ground. Apprentice Bhanu Prathap Singh on the ’General’ waited patiently behind Crisp for an opening and the moment he found a gap in front, shifted left and rushed through with rapid acceleration. Crisp stayed on in second while Brave Assault and God is Great finished third and fourth respectively. Legal Knight was withdrawn before the race.

Vishal Yadav trained Chandini (Crown Jewels-Princess Chand) which was observed to be improving while finishing third in its previous outing came good to shed its maiden ranks in the Queen of the Hills Plate. A heavy downpour as the horses got to the starting gates made the underfoot condition softer. Speartooth got to the front at start followed closely by Belle Atoile, Aglaia, Sugadha, Nasty Rider and Chandini with Nayan far behind after a slow start. As they traversed the final bend, Chandini was pulled out to make its bid on the extreme outside. Rallying strongly inside the last furlong Chandini raced away to win comfortably from the long time leader Speartooth. Belle Atoile and Aglaia filled the frame in that order. Rising Affairs was withdrawn on veterinary grounds.

S.Rakesh trained Money Bay (Mt.Bellewood-Majestic Ceeson) scored an encore in the Abide Plate. Jockey M.Madhu Babu had replaced S.John on Money Bay and he made good of the chance mount. Chestnut Charmer rushed forward from the outermost draw to hit the front early as the eleven runners were dispatched for the mile trip. Money Bay tracked the leader till entering the home stretch and moved alongside with a strong challenge. Money Bay forged ahead by a length and kicked on to stave off the renewed effort of Chestnut Charmer. Shaka Zulu finished third ahead of Aristocratic.

Monnappa’s Zamindar with apprentice Saddam Hussain astride earned its first corn bill in the Diabolical Plate. A bit lethargic at start, Zamindar stayed with the rear bunch till approaching the 600 metres board. Improving around the field as they rounded the final turn Zamindar moved quickly to be third behind Magnifique and Beautiful Fin. Beautiful Fin went ahead inside the last 150 metres and Zamindar came up strongly in the closing stages to beat the favourite Beautiful Fin on the post. Young Gallant and Red Cardinal were withdrawn before the race.

Apprentice Saddam Hussain had started off the day with Feroz Khan trained Arc Angel (Classic Tale) in the Karighatta Plate. Rich Rogue set out in front from the start over the seven furlongs distance. Inside the last 300metres Arc Angel moved fluently to raise a challenge and surged forward to win comfortably. Infinithoughts also got stronger towards the closing stages but could only beat Rich Rogue for the second place.

The 5 year old Words of Wisdom (Plaverville-Time and Time) which had shifted base to Mysore at the beginning of the season under the care of Santosh Rao produced a scintillating acceleration in the last 50 metres to sizzle past Huckleberry Finn in the lower division of the Scone Stone Plate. Its My Party was up in front followed closely by Huckleberry Finn and Prezzie. Words of Wisdom had moved one place to run fourth as the field entered the straight. Huckleberry Finn quickly took over the running 150 metres from home and was looking good when Words of Wisdom ridden out vigourously by H.G.Rathod flew in to get the better and be a length ahead at the finish.

Trainer P.C.Tejaswi saddled the favourite Delta Delight (Don Micheletto-Fascinating Lady) to victory in the higher division and doubled it with outsider Mountain Glory in the concluding race. Supreme Strength was on a start to finish mission and had established a sizable lead of almost four lengths as they entered the final straight. Jockey Fransisco Fa Da Silva started to work his way on the top weighted Delta Delight to move to be second and bridging the leeway quickly moved forward to win by a little over a length.

Mountain Glory (Alnasr Alwasheek-Foretell) made every post a winning one in the Oxford Blue Plate. In the front from the beginning, Mountain Glory stepped up the pace to increase the lead to over four lengths and drew away. Pepper King and Euphoria fought out for the minor places with the latter finishing second by a long neck.

For the professionals Trainers C.D.Monnappa, P.C.Tejaswi and jockey Saddam Hussain scored a double each.
