Southern Empire has it easy

Southern Empire (B.Prakash up) winner of the Bangalore Juvenile Million (Gr.2) being led in by trainer Mr.Ganapathy

Easily the best three-year old in the country, Southern Empire faced no worthwhile opposition in the richly endowed Gr.2 Bangalore Juvenile Million and completed the formality of winning the race on Friday, with ridiculous ease. Southern Empire, who has won four races in a row, is a full brother to the celebrated Smart Chieftain and Classical Act but he appears to be a better specimen than his illustrious predecessors and barring any hiccups, the classics are at his mercy. The presence of Southern Empire had scared away most of the opposition and only five lined up to face the starter. Fabulous Emperor showed the way as Southern Empire was comfortably settled in second or third position till the final bend. Once given the go ahead, Southern Empire bounced away to a comfortable win. Super Speed moved from behind to take the runner up spot while the others, in trying to pace with the stalwart, had expended their energies and finished way behind. Red Cloud provided trainer Nityanand with his first success in a three-year old maidens’ race. The son of Placerville, who had run behind the classic hopeful Rain Splasher, had it easy against the likes of Moon Forest who surprisingly was the most favoured one in the race. After tracking Master Strategist and Moon Forest, Srinath brought Red Cloud on the outside of these two horses and the Placerville progeny picked up speed instantly and went away for a comfortable win. Nityanand had a double for the day as Rain God who had been running consistently, lasted out in the hands of veteran jockey Shakti Singh to win in a thriller from Pine Forest who did everything but pass the winner. Sensitive Prince could have won had his jockey P.Ramesh intended to and his antics in the saddle got him a suspension of one month. Star of Excellence brought off an upset when sailing past the strong favourite Alejandros. When Puttanna’s horses win, they are invariably against public expectations and his horses which are fancied by the public, rarely put their best foot forward. Tosccnani was backed to the exclusion of his rivals and going by his runs as a three-year old, he looked a cinch. Jockey Velu had no difficulty in steering the winner to a facile win. Bon Amis won the day’s opener, bolting to the front and establishing a useful lead. Bon Amis who bled during the races, was grinding to a halt but the winning post came to his rescue. Azazel was a close second ahead of Stage Coach. Faction Leader brought off a quiet touch when easily accounting for the opposition in the Champion Jockey Trophy (Div.I). One Touch Too Much who had run a forward race in his previous outing, ran down the field. Srinath, who had driven Red Cloud to victory earlier in the day, had it easy on Romantic Getaway who won from end to end, without coming under any pressure from his opponents. Mani At Eighty failed to make any impression while Alcindor moved from behind to take the runner up berth. Star Luminary had to be hard-ridden to win in the concluding race of the day where Gallery Queen failed to sustain her front-running efforts.
