SHIROCCO’S BROWN PANTHER WINS THE GOODWOOD CUP
By Racing Correspondent | 01 Aug 2013 |
Jockey Richard Kingscote rode Tom Dascombe trained Shirocco’s Brown Panther to a comfortable win in the G2 Artemis Goodwood Cup, a two mile trip at Goodwood on Thursday. Chasing the leading pair till the last seven furlongs, the 5 year old was ridden between horses to find its way and galloped readily to go clear inside the final furlong. Ahzeemah was second 3 ½ lengths behind while Altano was third.
The breeder owner Michael Owen said: "That was fabulous. The race is over 200 years old and has real heritage so it's an honour to win it, especially with a horse I bred.”
"He traveled really good and got himself in a really nice position," said jockey Richard Kingscote. "Turning for home, I was pretty confident. He likes to keep rolling and this track really suits him, as they get racing early and grind it out. He’s a lovely horse for me and the whole yard and we all love him at home”.
