WINSILI

Dansili’s 3 year old daughter Winsili pulled off a stunning upset in the G1 Markel Insurance Nassau Stakes on the concluding day of the Glorous Goodwood Meeting. Sporting the silks of Khalid Abdullah, Winsili was ridden by William Buick for trainer John Gosden. After a steady Start from the outermost draw, Winsili was held back towards the rear early. Shifting left nearing the last two furlongs, the filly covered ground when William started to urge her strongly. Moving in, inside the final furlong, Winsili got to the front and held off the strong challenge of Thistle Bird towards the closing stages of the race. Hot Snap finished third another two lengths away while the favourite Sky Lantern ridden by Richard Hughes was badly hampered for a clear run in the last 1 ½ furlongs, ending up fifth.

"We were drawn outside, which is a disadvantage, but at least it meant we weren’t boxed in, said the winning trainer John Gosden.” She can’t stand still, she has to be moving and is strong-minded. When she goes to the canters in the morning she has to go one other and trot past and if she has to wait, she nearly throws herself on the ground in frustration. Prince Khalid has won four of the last five, which is some achievement."

Sky Lantern’s rider Richard Hughes who was hustled while making his move in the last furlong said, "I had a good run through and I was behind the Godolphin filly at the two-furlong pole, but when I went to edge out round her Mr Buick's horse rolled in and pushed me back on their heels. I think I was on the best horse in the race. She was coming to win her race but that's racing."
