Mr Vijay Kumar Gupta & Trainer L V R Deshmukh leading Machiavellianism (P S Chouhan Up), winner of The Air Command Cup

Suraj Narredu coming down to Malakpet for the first time this Monsoon straight away got down to business booting home three winners, all for trainer L.D’Silva. Deshmukh and P.S.Chouhan kept their score ticking with a double which included Machiavellianism in the main event of the day.

L.V.R.Deshmukh trained Machiavellianism (Jazil-Empress Jessie) completed the formality with ease in the Air Command Cup, which featured the seven races card on Sunday at Hyderabad. The 4 year old gelding, incidentally the youngest of the eight runners in the race was sent in at cramped odds for this mile trip. Settling easily in third behind Elzaam and Front Line, Machiavellianism stayed there till coming into the final run on the home stretch. Once into the last two furlongs, jockey P.S.Chouhan brought it out from around the two runners in front and moved ahead smoothly without being extended. The Leader did well to finish second in front of stable mate Don Valentino.

Deshmukh and Chouhan had started the day with Vijays Triumph (Glory of Dancer-Sonatina) in the Noble Quest Plate, a seven furlongs race for maiden 3 year olds. Vijays Triumph was in Bangalore during the current Summer Season and had failed to justify the favouritism in its last outing there, finishing second to Flashing Colours. The gelding was once again installed as the favourite at a short quote against the local challengers. Racing a handy fourth till moving into the last 400 metres, Vijays Triumph improved gradually and forged to take control quickly on the straight. The rider less Deal Maker looked to be disturbing inside the last 200 metres but P.S.Chouhan handled the situation well to emerge a good two lengths ahead of Riverdale. Light Blue Sky finished third.

Jockey Suraj Narredu made his presence at Malakpet felt with a popular treble, all of them for trainer L.D’Silva. Santa Monica, Coral Springs and Queen of the Stars were the three winners. Suraj had to use his talent to win on Santa Monica in the Shivkumar Lal Memorial Cup. Naughty Gal set out on a start to finish bid while the hot favourite Santa Monica travelled in about sixth position almost six lengths behind. Sensing the need to be in a prominent position, Suraj improved his mount to be third approaching the last 600 metres. Inside the last 300 metres the leader Naughty Gal was relentless and began to kick on and Suraj gave a couple of hard backhanders and started to use his hands and heels vigorously. Moving closer with every stride Santa Monica got the better of Naughty Gal by half a length at the finish. Aerosmith and Golden Rule finished third and fourth respectively.

Coral Springs (Ace-Orient Dance) completed its assignment in the higher division of the Elegant Plate. Dazzling Princess, Smashing Beauty and Yours Truly raced in that order with Coral Springs travelling easily in fourth. Moving around the three in front inside the last 300 metres, Coral Springs went ahead effortlessly to win. Yours Truly, Smashing Beauty and Dazzling Princess filled the frame in that order.

Queen of the Stars completed a hat-trick with a pillar to post victory in the Mirza Ghalib Plate. The ‘Queen’ had completed an encore during its stint at Bangalore during the summer before getting back to its home centre. Jumping out smartly from draw 12, Queen of the Stars rushed to the inner fence to lead the field. Inside the last 400 metres the favourite travelled with ease with Suraj Narredu holding the filly on a tight rein and extended the margin of victory. Fairy Boy finished second after running third all the way while Winjoy came up late to be third.

K.S.V.Prasad Raju trained Bold Attack (Sharp Attack-Tarq Asmi) made every post a winning one in the lower division of the Elegant Plate. Speedy at start apprentice P.Sai Kumar drove Bold Attack to the front. Promotion was second about five lengths adrift with Aware travelling third another two lengths away as they rounded the final bend. Inside the final furlong Bold Attack maintained the pace and kicked on gamely. The race favourite Black Bolt finished on to be second ahead of Aware.

K.Satheesh traind Ground Crew (Hurricane State-Deep in the Jungle) completed an encore in the Grand Entry Plate. Having won a six furlongs sprint earlier this season, Ground Crew was taken to the front over the extended trip of seven. Coming into the home stretch Ground Crew was clear by over six lengths. Racing Tycoon started to close the gap towards the closing stages but Ground Crew cleared the winning post 1 1/2 lengths in front.
