Trainer L V R Deshmukh (deputising for S S Attaollahi) leading Camorra (Trevor Patel Up), winner of the Nizam's Gold Cup (Gr.2)

S.S.Attaollahi trained Camorra (Brave Act-Camarioca) carried the silks of Dr. & Mrs. Vijay Mallya to a facile win in the prestigious Nizam’s Gold Cup Gr.2, which was the highlight of the seven races that were run on Monday. The highly rated Machiavellianism which had won a mile trip as a lead up about a fortnight ago was the raging favourite among the five contenders for this race, with Mountain Range also coming in for some spirited support during race time. Camorra which had earned a reputation of being a good stayer while finishing second in the Stayer’s Cup at Kolkata during the Invitational Weekend did not find many supporters.

Camorra which usually likes to cut the wind went ahead at start but chose to settle behind Vijays Champ when this Deshmuk’s trainee assigned with a particular task, rushed forward within the first furlong. Machiavellianism had settled well in third about three lengths adrift and Mountain Range on its haunches. Snow Bird was the tail-ender. Passing the 800 metres board jockey Trevor Patel was quick to get Camorra to the lead and came in first on the home stretch with a clear three lengths lead. Chouhan started to ride out Machiavellianism right on top of the straight but the favourite looked to be in distress unable to bear the 62 kilograms on its back. Camorra still enjoyed a good lead passing the distance post and Trevor continued to display his riding talent, in keeping the 6 year old to maintain the momentum till the winning post. Mountain Range got up to a fast gallop towards the closing stages but could only beat Machiavellianism for the second place.

The 3 year old Aventus (Ace-Starboard) from M.Sathyanarayana’s stables spared almost four lengths from Beau Ideal despite going miles wide on the final stretch to score an encore. Aventus came in well from the outermost draw to be a close third behind the early leaders Beau Ideal and Amazing Weapon. As they rounded the final bend Aventus moved in between the two in front and started to shift out, in the process pushing Amazing Weapon out of contention. Beau Ideal kept a straight course close to the inner rails but Aventus despite an alarming drift moved forward with 150 metres left and stayed well. Beau Ideal stayed on in second while Amazon Princess took the third spot.

L.D’Silva schooled Globetrotter (Arabian Gulf-Trace of Magic) was ridden to a pillar to post victory by Suraj Narredu in the Sangareddy Plate, a six furlongs sprint for maiden 3 year olds. Squanderers Square improved to be second on entering the straight but was no match for the winner which travelled easy without being extended. Nano Dame was third a street away. The saddle of True Haven slipped on the straight and dislodged its rider.

Anupam Sharma trained The Himalayas (International-Small Virtue) scored a run away win in the Byerly Brigade Cup. Shooting off to the front from draw one, The Himalayas kept increasing the lead all the way and was over six lengths ahead as they approached the final turn. Inside the last stretch there was no other contender in sight and The Himalayas trounced the opposition. Bang on Target beat the rest to take the second place. Midnight Beauty and Ace Star filled the frame.

Laxman Singh trained Racing Tycoon (Ace-Difficult Doll) was given a brilliant ride by A.M.Tograllu to edge out the favourite Specialist in the shadow of the winning post, to win the 2000 metres Donegal Plate. Specialist set its own pace right from the start and Racing Tycoon tracked the leader within a length all the way. Into the last 400 metres Racing Tycoon was pushed by Tograllu to move alongside Specialist. The two engaged in a stirring duel all through the final straight and Racing Tycoon necked out Specialist close to the wire.

Trainer S.S.Faisal Hassan was the only professional to score a double, winning both the divisions of the Subramanya Bharti Plate. Max Baby (Epicentre-Cornelia) was taken to the front right from the start by apprentice Akshay Kumar. Hard Hit and Jaz Elle raced in close attendance. Inside the last two furlongs Salvadore also joined the issue. Max Baby kicked on to be two lengths ahead at the finish from Salvadore. Jaz Elle ended up third.

Sugar Deal (Sussex-Sugar Mine) which had taken almost 4 racing years and 59 runs to earn its first corn bill, maintained the same zeal to score an encore in the lower division. Merry Maid was on a start to finish bid. Sugar Deal racing in about fourth position till entering the straight started to close in from the outside and forged ahead to beat Merry Maid by three parts of a length. Art Connoisseur was third another half a length away.
