Raj Veer set the track ablaze with a blistering run in the Prince Mouzam Jah Bahadur Memorial Trophy, the main event of the day at Malakpet. Carrying the top weight of 60 kilos on his back, the Laxman Singh trained 5 year old gelding set out in a scorching pace and stopped the clock at 1 minute 05.92 seconds, which is a new course record. Jockey Jodha who rode his guts out on Raj Veer scored a deserving double. Vinaleo came from the rear to push Citi Storm to third place. Habituated finished fourth.

Deshmukh schooled Vijayrath ran away with the higher division of the Army Cup, the added attraction of the day. Racing in mid field, Vijayrath improved gradually and skipped away through the shortest way on the straight. Standing Ovation stayed on in second position ahead of Dash on Regardless and Essence.

Jodha won the lower division on Prasad Raju's Hurricane Bay. Blazing Bounty showed up first on the straight and wrapped up as the race began to get to a boil. Leo Dvij began to move up on the far side and almost knocked out Hurricane Bay. Jodha gathered his mount at the right moment and brought the 'Hurricane' with a flourish to score an encore. M.Krishna, the rider of Leo Dvij has been suspended by the stewards from 21st to 25th January 2009 for careless riding.Vijayveer came through the rails to finish second. Fire Bender, with some in and out running, finished third.

Cygnet, Jugnu and Royal Bond began the tussle on the straight, in the Twin Cities Trophy when Anguna flashed on the scene and zipped past to win. Stable mate Royal Bond finished second ahead of Jugnu and Fusion Music in a close finish.

The trick played by Nitin Singh on Champion Star worked in their favour in the lower division of the Night Hawk Plate, the first race of the afternoon. Nitin took Champion Star to the front, from the start and established a distance lead over the other runners. Coming inside the final furlong Champion Star lost his steam and began to shorten his stride with Stormy Gladiator getting closer with every stride but the winning post came to the rescue of Champion Star who eventually won by a neck.

The higher division was won by Leo's Acciaccatura. The top two fancied runners, Zorbonaut and Acciaccatura broke away from the field and fought out the last furlong with the latter edging out by three parts of a length at the finish. This win was a straight double for Leo and Kamlesh, having won the Mount Hagen Plate on the odds on Above the Line, who led all the way with Kohinoor King in chase throughout.

The concluding race kept the entire Grand Stand at the edge of their seats till the judges announced the results. Dating and Bon Fire traveled head and head throughout the last furlong, with both the riders, Imran Khan and Christopher relentless in their pursuit. The two runners passed the winning post locked together and the magic eye, not able to separate them, the judges declared a dead heat for the first place.
