RUBY QUEEN

With outsiders holding forte on Saturday at Hyderabad, a single ticket was successful in the jackpot pool. The lone lucky punter went home a millionaire, encashing almost eleven lakhs on his ticket.

Ruby Queen repeated her performance in less than a week, winning the richly endowed Qutab Shahi Cup with utmost disregard to the opposition. As the field set out on the metric mile trip, jockey Suraj Narredu preferred to run the 'Queen' off the pace in last position till they began to negotiate the final turn. On the straight Ruby Queen was brought widest of all and galloped resolutely to win as she liked. Maximise stayed on in second, while Coral Gables improved from behind to take the third spot.

Anupam Sharma schooled youngster, Suchiman brought laurels to her stable, when she won the Raja Sitharam Bhupal of Domakonda Samasthan Memorial Cup. Having won on debut, this was her second straight win. The race was well fought out between Vendetta and Suchiman throughout the last 300 metres and the latter got the better in the last 50 metres winning by a slender margin. Alborado ran in second position till the last 300 metres and wound up, while the other fancied runner, Davenport was never in the hunt.

It was a back to back double for Sharma when his ward Lady Patricia won the very next race. Lying in the last position passing the 600 metre marker, Lady Patricia traveled widest of all and stunned everyone, flooring the entire field on the straight. Toofan Express, Integer and Artistic Emperor filled the frame in a close finish. Jockey Aadesh Kumar who partnered both the wins of Sharma rode a treble.

Rudolph Valentino, who was unlucky to have missed a win in his last essay, made amends, claiming the Rock of Gibraltar Cup, the opening race of the day. Surprisingly, Rudolph was ignored in the betting, loitering at tens. Star Senora and Royal Embassy shot to the front on the straight but was soon tackled by Rudolph Valentino. Royal Embassy finished second and Commander Moial passed tiring horses to take the third spot.

Costa Mesa won the lower division of the Tungabhadra Cup while Deccan Passion stunned in the higher division. Costa Mesa went start to finish and held on from Smarty Prince and the fast finishing Mi Jinkle. Jockey P.Kamlesh did some hard riding on Costa Mesa and that saw him through to the finish. Deccan Passion ran with blinkers on and that transformed his performance, stunning the entire field with a win. Phar Lap, Hospitality and Superflous filled the frame in a close finish.

Bentota got the Eagle Eye Plate on the post from Lucrative. Dancing Harbour with B. Shinde astride, who hasn't had a win in recent times was posted as the first favourite at 7 to 4 against. Jumping out fifth, he traveled well to take it up on the straight but that excitement was short lived as Lucrative passed him from behind. Bentota began his challenge in the last 100 metres and with some hard riding by Harish, got the race on the post in a thrilling finish.

Rising Rays beat the opposition with a measure of comfort in the lower division of the Dark Angel Plate. Trainer Faisal Hassan completed a double with Easy Mover in the higher division, the concluding race of the day.
