Robert Cowell trained Jwala scored a massive upset at 40-1 in the G1 Coolmore Nunthorpe Stakes- a part of the British Championship Series- on day 3 of the Ebor Festival at York. The daughter of Oasis Dream which had finished last in the King George after hurting its eye socket at the gates bounced back to win York’s Premier Sprint. "I'm absolutely thrilled," said the winning trainer Robert Cowell. "She is a grand filly who has come on leaps and bounds.”

Jwala was positioned well by jockey Steve Drowne, to track stable companion Spirit Quartz who set a steady pace in front. Approaching the last furlong Jwala closed in quickly and forged ahead to take charge inside the final furlong. The favourite Shea Shea was finishing on towards the closing stages but could only beat Sole Power to be the runner-up, half a length behind the Jwala.

It was a welcome win for jockey Steve Drowne who was back after being denied a riding license last year due to illness. "I was always going to come back, but you need a certain bit of luck to get on one like this, and I was lucky I was in the right place at the right time. There was no fluke about it and she’s the best five-furlong filly I’ve ridden by far. She’s so well-behaved and settled going down, and is so simple to deal with. She runs her races the hard way, she’s always in the firing line and there to be shot at."
