Mr Rakesh R Jhunjhunwala & trainer P Shroff Leading Amelia (A Sandesh Up), winner of The Deccan Bookmakers Fillies Championship Stakes (Gr.3)

Pesi Shroff trained Amelia (Multidimensional-Adamile) scored an emphatic victory in the Deccan Bookmakers Fillies Championship Stakes, Gr.3 at Hyderabad on Sunday. The daughter of Multidimensional who had won the Fillies’ Championship Stakes at Bangalore a couple of months ago added another Fillies’ triumph. It was a sensational achievement by Multidimensional, the poster boy of Usha Stud, after making a clean sweep of the Fillies’, Colts’ and the Derby at Bangalore this summer.

Palm Springs led the field from the start followed closely by Lucy Diamond and Roses in Bloom. Magical Spell and Ancillary raced together another two lengths away while Amelia hugged the inner rails in about sixth position. Entering the last two furlongs Palm Springs was still in front with Lucy Diamond beginning to challenge. Jockey A.Sandesh in the meanwhile started to pull out Amelia from the rails and making way for herself galloped effortlessly to forge ahead in the last 150 metres. Once in front the filly sped away to open a gap of three lengths over the runner-up Palm Springs. Lucy Diamond finished a close third while Magical Spell filled the frame.

The supporting event of the day, the Governor’s Cup was won by Ananth Vatsalya trained Kohinoor Wish (Gaswar-Blue Sonata). The 6 year old which had won the Stewards Cup about 20 days ago was sent in as an ‘on money’ favourite among the five runners. It has been a glorious run for this son of Gaswar, having finished off the frame only on three occasions in its career spanning over 36 races. Kohinoor Wish has won eighteen of them.  Vijays Conquer set out in front right from the start with Cape Ferrat in second. Kohinoor Wish and Plenipotent raced together while Dusty Lady was finding it hard to stay with the field. Kohinoor Wish started to close in on the leaders approaching the last furlong and was sighted a winner even before overtaking them. Cape Ferrat beat Vijays Conquer for the second place.

Shehzad Abbas trained All Pepper (Gaswar-Cats Whiskers) came with a late burst of speed under Ch K.Charry to be a stunning upset in the Original Vel Mrs.Radha Balasubramani Gold Cup. All Pepper was held back towards the rear to be in about tenth position. Inside the last 300 metres All Pepper was still in the rear with a wall of horses in front. With a furlong left from home a wide gap opened up in front and All Pepper went for it with a rattle and collared Ashwa Shakti which was looking to pull it off all the way on the straight. Ashoka Chakra and Proof finished third and fourth respectively.

Shehzad Abbas had started the day with Light Blue Sky (Don Micheletto-Sky Bright) in the opener, the Chaitanya Chakram Cup, a mile trip for maiden 3 year olds. Moving steadily to run close behind the leader True Haven as they rounded the final bend, Light Blue Sky responded well to Imran Khan’s urgings and surged ahead. Ice Barrier and Machine Gun tried to get closer but Light Blue Sky kicked on gamely to be four lengths ahead at the finish.

Jockey P.S.Chouhan, who was finding it hard to get winners in the last couple of weeks bounced back with a treble, two of them for trainer M.Srinivas Reddy and one for Deshmukh. Reddy saddled winners in both the divisions of the P.R.Khade Memorial Cup. Apprise (Midtown-Lyricist) won the higher division to make it two wins from as many starts in this season. Apprise raced close to the inner rails but towards the rear in about eighth position while Price Warrior was on a start to finish bid. As they straightened up for the final run, jockey P.S.Chouhan wanted to improve Apprise but got blocked with horses all around. Wriggling out of the mess Apprise came up fast to forge ahead in the last 50 metres. Hard Kingdom also made a forceful bid towards the closing stages but fell short by a slender margin. Price Warrior finished third.

Precisely That (Rebuttal-Waggamama) which had won last almost two years ago found the required speed in the last 200 metres to win the lower division. Racing a handy fifth till the top of the straight, Precisely That shifted left and made a run on the extreme outside. Rose Queen challenged strongly in the last 100 metres but fell short by half a length.

L.V.R. Deshmukh trained Vijays Triumph (Glory of Dancer-Sonatina) scored an encore in the Democracy Plate, the concluding race of the day. Vijays Triumph surged ahead of the front running Rajkumar near the two furlongs pole. Black Bolt was the only one among the ten opponents which offered a challenge but the winner stayed well to be a little over a length at the finish.

S.S.Faizal Hassan schooled Dazzling Empress (Case Law-Access Speed) came out of its maiden ranks in the Elusive Hero Cup. Setting out in front from the word ‘go’, Dazzling Princess made every post a winning one. The filly started to drift out in the last 250 metres but still maintained a good lead and drew away by a big margin.
