Dr Teegala Vijendra Reddy & trainer K S V Prasad Raju leading Dandelion (Trevor Patel Up), winner of The K.Srinivas Reddy Memorial Cup

Intermittent rainfall that started during the fifth race on Monday intensified further forcing the authorities to cancel the last race of the day as the underfoot condition was not favourable and the light was fading. A total of 20 mm of rainfall was recorded during the period at Malakpet. The K.Srinivas Reddy Memorial Cup, a 1000 metres sprint, instituted in memory of former steward of the club was the main event of the day. K.S.V.Prasad Raju trained Dandelion (Gaswar-Bluegrass Gal) donkey licked the opposition in the race to complete a fine hat-trick.

Notwithstanding the wet underfoot condition Dandelion took a flying start from the innermost draw and set off to lead the field. Handling the ground well Dandelion came in first on the straight and kicked on without the rider Trevor having to do anything extra. The manner in which the 3 year old son of Gaswar won the sprint suggests a bright future for the gelding. Queen of the Stars made its bid in the last 300 metres but could only beat the rest for the second place.

Jockey Trevor Patel was the only professional to score a double. A last outing winner Dazzling Empress (Case Law-Access Speed) over 1200 metres made every post a winning one over the extended trip of seven furlongs in the Hyderabad Veterinary College Diamond Jubilee Cup. Dazzling Empress and Ground Crew disputed the lead right from the start into the home stretch. Inside the last 400 metres jockey started to ride out Dazzling Empress and trainer S.S.Faisal Hassan’s filly responded readily to move away from the rest. Regal Groom warmed up late and came with a dash from behind but fell short by half a length. Ground Crew finished third.

Ananth Vatsalya trained Sheikhs Emperor (Placerville-Singita) was the lone upset on a day dominated by favourites. It started to drizzle as the eight runners started off over the 2200 metres trip in the Nizam Sagar Cup and began to get heavier as they went past the half way mark. Sheikhs Emperor set its own pace from the beginning and was the first to show up on the home straight. Shades of Victory made a sustained bid in the last 150 metres travelling in and out but failed to collar the leader by a ‘head’. Great Warrior and Enigma finished third and fourth respectively.

R.H.Sequeira trained Ein Ein Ein (Epicentre-Cannon Glow) which had done decently well in its previous three runs came out of its maiden ranks in the lower division of the Malvado Plate, a 5 ½ furlongs dash for maiden 3 year olds. Fair And Square set off on a start to finish mission followed closely by Ein Ein Ein. Inside the last furlong started to challenge strongly but ran green under pressure even as Fair And Square kept going. With jockey S.Sreekant correcting Ein Ein Ein’s wayward ways the youngster forged ahead to win by half a length.

Another short priced favourite Midnight In Paris (Multidimensional-Da Vinci Rose) from M.Sathyanarayana’s stables won the higher division under S.Shiva Kumar. Midnight in Paris moved swiftly at start to lead the field. Star Wings ran on its haunches right from the start and the two almost came together for the final run. While Midnight in Paris kicked on gamely, Star Wings came under pressure and veered out of the straight course to finish second. Rock Heights and Natalia filled the frame in a close finish.

L.D’Silva trained Bloody Mary (Mr.Mellon-Cats Concert) handled the wet going well while slamming the rivals in the higher division of the P.Antony Memorial Plate to earn its second win of the season. After leading the pack for the first two furlongs, Bloody Mary let Dream Deal go ahead and settled along the rails in second. Into the last 400 metres jockey Suraj Narredu urged Bloody Mary to quicken and the 5 year old responded readily to grab the lead and win easily. Dream Deal finished second while Ace Star improved towards the rails to take the third spot.

K.Satheesh trained Price Warrior (Sunday Doubt-Integrity) justified the favouritism in the lower division. Improving steadily from the outermost draw, Price Warrior came up well to track the leader Bound For Glory by the time they reached the 600 metres board. Inside the last 400 metres Price Warrior went past Bound For Glory easily and was ridden out by B.Dileep to keep at bay the late effort of Mr.Himalayas. Napoleon and Mr.Khoashteep filled the frame in that order.
