Trainer Laxman Singh leading Hidden Destiny (S S Tanwar Up), winner of The Major General Nawab Khusru Jung Bahadur Memorial Cup

Laxman Singh trained Hidden Destiny (Eljohar-Lucky Mining) showed plenty of speed while winning the Major General Nawab Khusru Jung Bahadur Memorial Cup, a 1000 metres sprint for horses in Category I, in a new course record timing, beating the one that stood in the name of Kohinoor Mystic for three years. Six runners lined up for the start. Hidden Destiny took a good start from the outermost draw and moved swiftly to lead the field. Elenor tracked the leader about two lengths behind. Inside the last200 metres Hidden Destiny continued to kick on, to give the new crop apprentice S.S.Tanwar his first win. Elenor moved closer towards the closing stages but fell short by a ‘neck’. The favourite Ashwa Shakti warmed up late to finish a close third.

Ananth Vatsalya trained Kohinoor Revanta (Epicentre-Okati Okati Okati) which had remained a maiden even after 31 starts, finally came good in the opener of the day, the Raja Saheb of Challapalli Memorial Cup. The 4 year old was venturing over 1800 metres for the first time. Taking the lead from the start, Kohinoor Revanta made every pole a winning one. The favourite Ice Barrier tried its best to catch the winner but the effort was in vain.

The track was fast on the day with course record being bettered in both the divisions of the Jatprole Plate. K.Satheesh trained Sweet Candy (Hurricane State-Integral) was ridden strongly by Deep Shanker to win the higher division in a fast timing over the 1100 metres distance which was fractionally better than the existing record. Pacific Star set out on a start to finish bid with Star Prospect and Wedding Gift close behind. Sweet Candy had improved to be a close fourth quickly. As the field headed to the straight, Sweet Candy was quickly alongside the leader Pacific Star. The two matched strides for a while and Sweet Candy forged ahead to win by a length and three quarters. Robust and Prince Prashant flashed on late to finish third and fourth respectively in a close finish with Pacific Star.

The new record set by Sweet Candy was short lived as Laxman Singh trained Rocking Racer (Mull of Kintyre-Esoteric) cut off another fraction of a second in the lower division. Deep Shanker took Rocking Racer to the front from draw one and made every post a winning one. Commanche Gold came up strongly to challenge inside the last 100 metres but Rocking Racer staved off the challenge with authority. The favourite Azaiba finished third ahead of Ice Lolly.

S.Habeebullah trained Yours Truly (Case Law-Divine Honey) which had failed narrowly in its last outing made amends in the higher division of the Nawab Sultan Ali Khan Memorial Cup. Sent in as the favourite in the race, Yours Truly showed plenty of speed to hit the front at start. Concours was in chase in second and Invincible India in third along the inside. Invincible India started to throw a challenge inside the last 150 metres but Yours Truly kicked on under B.Dileep to win by 2 1/2 lengths. Catherine beat Concours for the third place.

K.S.V.Prasad Raju’s Bold Attack (Sharp Attack-Tarq Asmi) bounced back to winning ways in the lower division. Bold Attack and Super Cool drew away from the rest early in the race and raced almost together till they came into the home stretch. Camacho Speed came with a late dash towards the closing stages but failed to collar Bold Attack by 1/4 of a length. Super Cool was third another 3/4 of a length behind.

Moment of Roses (Diffident-Vindication) from the stables of Anupam Sharma won the higher division of the P.V.G.Raju Memorial Cup. The 5 year old filly was sent in as the favourite in the field of nine runners. Bang on Target had taken over the running from Queen of Court and was looking good with 100 metres left from home. Moment of Roses who was still towards the rear in second last position at that stage responded readily when apprentice Akshay Kumar urged it and came with a flourish, covering ground at a rapid pace to overhaul Bang on Target. Golden Adagio and Cypress Way fought out to finish third and fourth respectively.

K.satheesh trained Handsome Hunk (Juniper-Knowle Park) whose last win was almost a year and a half ago won the lower division authoritatively. Sent in as the favourite at a quote less than ‘Evens’, Handsome Hunk had moved to be a close second behind the front running Amrapal as the field approached the 600 metres board. With an effortless manoeuvre Handsome Hunk was in the front passing the 400 metres marker and then extended the lead to be over six lengths at the finish. Ziglar finished second while Midnight Beauty was third further behind.

For the professionals, trainers K.Satheesh and Laxman Singh and Jockeys B.Dileep and Deep Shanker scored a double each.
