BIG BOSS SCORES AN UPSET IN THE MAIN EVENT

Trainer L.D'Silva leading Big Boss (G.Sai Vamshi up), winner of the Raja R.J.K.Ranga Rao, Zamindar Of Chikkavaram Memorial Cup Div-1

Big Boss (Don Micheletto-Shades of Beauty) from the stables of L.D’Silva scored an upset in the higher division of the Raja R.J.K.Ranga Rao, Zamindar of Chikkavaram Memorial Cup, which featured the day’s races on Saturday at Hyderabad. The bay gelding’s last win was exactly a year ago. Azaiba and Ground Crew, both last outing winners shared the favouritism at 2-1 each. Ground Crew was troublesome near the gates and was withdrawn after refusing to move in. Azaiba took a good jump and went to the front at start. Rose Queen and Big Boss tracked the leader almost together about two lengths behind. As they entered the straight for the final run, Big Boss joined Azaiba on the outside and started to get stronger. Azaiba held on to the lead for sometime but finally lost out to the strong challenge of Big Boss. Da Xia came in late to finish third.

Trainer M.Srinivas Reddy having missed winning the higher division with Azaiba, wrapped up the lower division with Pacific Star (Hymn-Mazzal). Apprentice P.Venkat took the 4 year old filly to the front within 100 metres from the start and had opened a gap of over eight lengths as they passed the half way stage. Into the home stretch for the final 400 metres, Pacific Star still enjoyed a lead of nearly five lengths. Ice Lolly started to gain move up strongly inside the last 100 metres, bridging the gap but Pacific Star stayed well to win by half a length. Prince of Arabia and Any Given Time finished third and fourth respectively.

Trainer D’Silva and jockey G.Sai Vamshi combined to score a double. They had earlier scored on the favourite Vocation (Multidimensional-Cacophony) in the Candy Man Plate. Stable Companion Laurel Canyon started off on a start to finish mission, with Sheikhs Emperor in second and Vocation travelling in third. As they passed the 600 metres marker, Sheikhs Emperor fell back and Vocation made a quick move to get closer to the leader. Passing the distance post Vocation surged forward and drew away to win by a lengthening margin. Symbol of Victory improved late to finish third, a neck behind Laurel Canyon. Well wisher and Riverdale were withdrawn before the race.    

Trainer Laxman Singh scored a popular double with Ray of Hope and Natalia. Ray of Hope (Mull of Kintyre-Ahliyat) was impressive when scoring an encore in the Camino Cup. A winner over seven furlongs in her previous start, the filly won the extended trip of a mile with more on hand. Kianoosh set off in front to lead the field from the start. Ray of Hope raced in second about two lengths behind while Graceland was a close third. Inside the final 300metres, Ray of Hope moved easily to get alongside the leader Kianoosh and forged ahead with ease. Graceland improved to beat the tiring Kianoosh for the second place.

Natalia (Bahamian Bounty-Night Dancer) scored a pillar to post victory in the Prince Regent Plate. Captain Nemo and Queen of Court were racing the closest till they showed up on the straight. While Queen of Court fell back under pressure in the last 300 metres, Captain Nemo kept the bid alive. Natalia kicked on gamely to win by over two lengths. Princely Right improved from behind to finish second ahead of Captain Nemo.

Trainer Anupam Sharma saddled a double, winning both the divisions of the Top Most Plate. Nano Dame (Epicentre-Streaking Senorita), win less from eight runs was ridden to a maiden win by apprentice M.Mukesh Kumar in the lower division. Kohinoor Adhira set out in front from the start. Nano Dame improved to be second as they rounded the final turn and moving alongside in the last 300 metres. Apprentice M.Mukesh Kumar started to push Nano Dame strongly and the filly responded well to forge ahead and win by two lengths. Hard Hit improved late to finish second in front of Kohinoor Adhira.  

Sarvagnya (Juniper-Ahliyat) scored a start to finish win in the higher division under apprentice Deepak Singh. In front from the start, Sarvagnya came in first on the straight followed closely by the favourite Classic Wish. Inside the last 200 metres Sarvagnya started to drift out of the straight course and Classic Wish moved closer to the inner rails with a strong challenge but the winner kept kicking on despite veering out and sparing 1 3/4 lengths over Classic Wish.
