Seal of Approval scored a stunning upset in the G1 Qipco British Champions Fillies & Mares Stakes at Ascot. The filly trained by James Fanshawe had the longest quote among the nine runners in the race. The daughter of Authorized was at her best while displaying resilience in handling traffic problems en-route to her win. She won by a convincing four lengths, thus putting behind the unsavory incident where dislodged her rider Hayley Turner at Doncaster last time on Sept.12.
Seal of Approval was held back in 5th early by jockey George Baker. Approaching the quarter pole the filly was looking to improve but found the path closed from all sides and was badly hampered for a clear run. George Baker managed to pull her left and once shown the daylight between Belle de Crecy and Talent, the filly galloped resolutely to take over in the final furlong. Belle de Crecy finished second and Talent was third another neck behind.
"I was tight for room in the home straight, but once she got daylight she picked up”, said jockey George Baker.
"We always felt she liked soft ground and it's great for the owners, who bred her," commented the winning trainer. "The only sad thing is Hayley's not riding after getting injured at Doncaster”.
