Olympic Glory sporting blinkers for the first time brought out the best in him to win the G1 Queen Elizabeth II Stakes. Richard Hannon trained three year old was ridden confidently by Richard Hughes to provide a second big triumph in just a fortnight for the owner Sheikh Joaan Al Thani, after Treve’s victory in the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe.

Burwaaz, pacemaker to Soft Falling Rain set a burning pace and Hughes held back Olympic Glory towards the rear. Top Notch Tonto progressed well as they neared the last three furlongs and was the first to show zeal and take the lead near the last two furlongs. Hughes still waited patiently with Olympic Glory and the son of Choisir responded readily to rush through the gap between Dawn Approach and Kingsbarns inside the last 1 1/2 furlongs and sizzle past. Top Notch Tonto finished second and Kingsbarns third. The 2-1 favourite Dawn Approach failed to quicken when asked for and ended up fourth.

"We always believed in him and what a trainer! If Richard Hannon was training these good horses 20 years ago no-one would have got a look in," said Hughes while complimenting trainer Hannon. "He just travelled so well on the ground," he added about Olympic Glory.
