AN IMPRESSIVE FAREWELL BY FARHH IN THE CHAMPION STAKES

By Racing Correspondent | 20 Oct 2013 |

Saeed bin Suroor trained Farhh which was back on the race track after a lengthy gap of five months since its triumph in the Lockinge, put on show its flair, while winning the G1 Qipco Champion Stakes in a breathtaking three way finish involving Cirrus Des Aigles and Derby Champ Ruler of the World. Farhh, which had to encounter injury and setbacks in its career, was on its last race before retirement. Farhh would now stand as a stallion at Dalham Hall Stud in Newmarket as confirmed by Simon Crisford, Godolphin’s racing manager.

Jockey Silvester De Souza held Farhh well to track the leader till approaching the last furlong. Hard pressed by the crafty De Souza, Farhh shot to the front with a furlong left and held on well to win from the fast finishing Cirrus Des Aigles and Ruler of the World in a close finish.

Trainer Saeed bin Suroor after winning his first Champion Stakes said: "This horse is a great fighter. He had a break after winning the Lockinge and he has been a miler in the past but a mile and a quarter was great for him today on that ground. He was the best horse in the race today. I am very proud of him and this is good for Godolphin. He's been a very tough horse since he was a two-year-old but we've just had to look after him with a different programme to keep him sound. His last piece of work was brilliant and the ground was a concern but he handled it well."
