Cotswold Arms (Neeraj Rawal up), winner of the Maharaja Sir Harisinghji Trophy (Gr.3)

Cotswold Arms who has been very consistent this season, surprised hot favorite dancing Dynamite in the Maharaja Sir Harisinghji Trophy the feature event of the concluding day of the Mumbai season 09. Beyond Belief set the pace and led the field homewards. Cotswold Arms improved to be third into the straight and quickened nicely to easily surge past the leader past the 400. Cotswold arms started to stride extremely well and in no time built up a decisive lead and also kept the momentum going leaving nothing to chance. Dancing Dynamite was never going to catch up the way Cotswold Arms kept going even with his well known finishing power. Cotswold Arms looked formidable and was a clear winner with surprising ease. The Bangalore turf Club Trophy saw a thrilling three-way finish that saw Raquel touch the wire pegging back Covenant and warding off a close challenge from favourite Star Impact. Covenant shot into the lead and pressed for home. Raquel was the first to move alongside and the fight got hotter with Star Impact covering ground at a brisk pace. With 100 to go, it was anybody’s race. Raquel just about piped Covenant and was lucky to ward off Star Impact for whom the winning post arrived a stride too soon. Imran Chisty had one his best days booting home a hatrick in the first three races and then finishing it off with a victory in the last. Zen was the first success as Chisty kept him close behind Ratnavali who led from the start. In the straight, Ratnavali kicked on and Zen had to work hard to draw level with Ratnavali. The pair fought on, with Ratnavali holding the edge until the last 50 meters. Courage Under Fire was the only other horse in the vicinity but the duo in front was both going too well for Courage under fire to contend. In the final few strides, Zen powered his way past Ratnavali to post a well-fought victory. The Pune homestretch will suit Ratnavali better and she is the one to make note of. Chisty had a more comfortable ride in the second race atop Sea Of kisses. Check Her Out hit the front and Sea Of Kisses followed close behind. Once into the straight, Sea Of Kisses was biding her time and accelerated well past the distance post to stretch away from Check Her Out in the final furlong. Sea Ruler gave Chisty his third victory in a row and this was perhaps the easiest of rides. Waiting till after the turn, Chisty was chasing Aston Martin his main rival. However, when Chisty gave the signal, Sea Ruler bounded forward adding distance at a brisk pace to sew up the race long was from home. Sea Ruler won by a distance. Extraordinaire came from behind to edge out Aston Martin for the runner up berth. Imran Chisty then rounded off the day on a victorious note astride the well-backed Devilitto. In the front and ready to accelerate, Devilitto built up a decisive lead early in the straight and never looked in trouble. Resilience was hard ridden but only managed to narrow the margin. Elegante did well to finish in the place money. Go Guzzi Go put in her best run when it mattered most on her way to downing a stubborn Swahili. Swahili entered the straight with a slender lead and past the 400 Go Guzzi Go came alongside with full steam. Go Guzzi Go headed the leader approaching the distance post but was unable to shake off the fighting Swahili. It was only closer home that Go Guzzi Go drew away from Swahili who gave the winner a tough fight. Blue Mountain came from behind to finish ahead of Blade Runner. Highland Flame (Glory Of Dancer – Killarney) put the runaway tactics to good result and led the pack all the way. Heavily backed Flaming Arrow was in chase all the time but quickened far too late to make any impact on Highland Flame. Flaming Arrow warmed up in the last furlong and flew towards the end to go down narrowly to Highland Flame. The Chairman of the RWITC, Dr. Cyrus Poonawalla awarded the various Champions of the season their trophies in the paddock. Dr. Vijay Mallya’s United Bloodstock & Breeders Ltd won the Leading Owners Trophy. Trainer C D Katrak won the Champion Trainer award and Jockey Daniel Grant was the Champion Jockey earning the dixtinction of being the first foreign jockey to do so.
