In what is emerging as part of a bigger deal, Mohit Lalvani will take charge as the Editor-in-Chief of the most popular racing website in India, Indiarace.com from the 1st of November 2013.
Mohit Lalvani has been involved in horse racing for decades as a race horse owner, a Board of Appeal member at the RWITC, a committee member with WIRHOA and as a journalist in India and abroad.
From a racing family, Mohit Lalvani has been most associated with his own television show – The Winning Post which was launched in 2000. As a journalist, Mohit Lalvani has been the TV anchor for several years in India, Singapore and the UK and has also contributed as a senior journalist for leading giants of the national print media. His successful launch of the Winning Post Live this year, brought the best of UK racing to India.
Speaking to this journalist, Lalvani said, “Indiarace.com is the leading website in India and the Winning Post, the best TV platform. A coming together of the two seemed logical when considering the common goals that both have, which is to promote the sport and deal with issues without showing bias or a disposition towards yellow journalism.
When I compared the official data on traffic and numbers for Indiarace as compared to the other websites in India, the results were surprising. Basically, the others are not in the same ballpark. Indiarace by far has the greatest reach and I intend to link this asset with the need of sponsors. For example, on www.alexa.com Indiarace is ranked in the top 8000 websites in India while the others are all have rankings between 340,000 to some that are unranked. This is an astronomical difference and frankly for web sponsors who are looking at adverts in the space of Indian racing there is no sense in advertising elsewhere at the same costs. It’s a bit like buying a car with a 1 litre engine for the same price that you could get a Mercedes.
The Winning Post has official viewer figures of over 3 million a year with a household penetration of close to 40 million. With TV and internet merging as platforms, there will be huge cross content leveraging which in turn will provide very simply, the most robust communication platform for horse racing in India.”
Mohit Lalvani’s coming on board Indiarace will add to the talent pool of writers that write for the site. Having a stable that includes Major Nagolkar, Anil Mukhi and now Mohit Lalvani is one that boasts classic pedigree and performance. It will ensure that this is an exciting development in the world of horse racing.
