Trainer S A Shehzad Abbas leading Roses In Bloom (A Ashhad Asbar Up), winner of The Mir Fazilath Hussain Memorial Cup

The 3 year old dark bay filly, Roses In Bloom (Multidimensional-Roses In The Snow), owned and trained by S.A.Shehzad Abbas scored an encore in the Mir Fazilath Hussain Memorial Cup, winning the 'mile' as she liked. The filly who had been penalized 8 points for her last win four weeks ago, repeated that performance in similar fashion. Palm Springs went to the front to set the pace at the start, followed by Kohinoor Thunder, Symbol of Victory and Galiat. Roses In Bloom who showed lot of eagerness to gallop was held back well by Asbar along the fence. As they rolled into the final straight, Asbar let go of Roses In Bloom and the filly surged forward with a fluent gallop and drew away from the rest. Galiat finished on to be the runner-up while Kohinoor Punch was a close third. The early leader Palm Springs was fourth.

D.Netto trained Rajkumar (Eljohar-Tia) returned to the winning circle with a dominating performance in the Deccan Star Cup. Netto’s 4 year old gelding whose last win was about 8 months ago was sent in as the favourite at a short price after its showing over six furlongs a month ago, where he finished in the money. Dazzling Princess cut the wind with Super Cool just beside and Rajkumar biding its time on the wider outside. Approaching the last 250 metres Rajkumar made headway to take over the running and stayed well. Khabza was all along the straight improving along the inner path to take the second place. Super Cool finished third ahead of Arudra. Moko Moko Moko was a non-starter in the race.

Netto and Dashrath combined to pull off a double. They had started off with Western Express (C P West-Lizzie Borden) winning the Youngsters Plate, Four juvenile’s lined up for the 1100 metres dash. Western Express and Super Falcon left the other two behind and disputed the lead all the way from the start. Once into the home stretch Super Falcon was urged by Deep Shanker to quicken and Dashrath Singh also continued to work his way on Western Express to keep going. The two matched strides till inside the last 100 metres and Western Express finally moved away to win by a little over a length.

Trainer L.V.R.Deshmukh and jockey P.S.Chouhan, both of whom topped the tally in the recently concluded monsoon season, teamed up to score a double with Machine Gun and Magical Spell. Machine Gun (Rebuttal-Maria) shed its maiden status with a pillar to post win in the Taramati Cup. Jumping out well from the inner most draw, Magical Spell set out to lead the field. Sarvagnya and Graceland raced close behind followed by the rest. Machine Gun came in with a lead of about three lengths into the straight and with Chouhan giving a couple of taps, quickened well to draw away. Winds And Waves improved late from the rear to be the best of the beaten lot. Graceland and Sarvagnya finished third and fourth respectively.

Magical Spell (Phoenix Tower-Goodness Gracious) won the 1100 metres dash, the Grand Entry Plate with a measure of comfort. Fairy Boy showed plenty of early speed to lead the field followed closely by Coral Springs, Rose Queen and Magical Spell. P.S.Chouhan got the 3 year old filly to get to a striking position behind the leader Fairy Boy as they rounded the turn and galloped strongly to surge forward midway up the straight. Fairy Boy held on gamely to finish second from the late finishing Power Drive. Dandelion and Rahul’s Diamond were withdrawn with the latter taken out after refusing to move into the gate.

Zoheb Shaikh trained Equalizer (Mull of Kintyre- Pupa Fiorini) received some spirited betting towards race time and the 3 year old son of Mull of Kintyre did not disappoint her supporters. Equalizer scored a pillar to post win over the mile trip in the Own Opinion Plate. Jockey S Sreekant took Equalizer to head the field of eight runners and was a clear three lengths ahead of Vijays Grandeour as they came in for the home run. Equalizer kicked on gamely to maintain the lead and win comfortably. Big Move surged past the tiring Vijays Grandeour to finish second. Chocolate Soldier was withdrawn before the race.

K,Satheesh trained Just Once (Danehill Star-Rivoltta) justified the short price in the Adolfito Plate, the concluding race of the day. Jockey B.Dileep took the filly to the lead from the word ‘go’ and led all the way to the finish. Swift Arrow warmed up inside the last 200 metres along the inner rails to beat Vijays Splendour for the second place.

For the professionals’ trainers D.Netto, L.V.R.Deshmukh and jockeys Dashrath Singh and P.S.Chouhan scored a double each.
