Mr.Kondlapudi Satish & trainer L V R Deshmukh leading Fastest Finger (P S Chouhan Up), winner of The Nagarjuna Sagar Plate

Trainer Anupam Sharma reaped rich on Monday at Hyderabad, clearing half the day’s card. His ward Kianoosh won the Deccan Bookmakers Trophy under apprentice K.Mukesh Kumar and he then wrapped up the last three races, all with jockey Carlos Henrique astride. Trainer L.V.R.Deshmukh and jockey P.S.Chouhan scored a back to back double with Winds Of Victory and Fastest Finger.

Fastest Finger (Holy Roman Emperor-Fragrant) had a lung opener in the Nagarjuna Sagar Plate, the main event of the day. Sent in as the ‘money back’ favourite in the race, the 3 year old bay colt provided an arm chair ride to P.S.Chouhan while completing the formality. Settled back in third early as Black Bolt and Sheridan led the field, Fastest Finger forged to the front as they went past the 600 metres marker and led all the way to the winning post without any threat from behind. Black Bolt held on to take the second spot in front of Greek Star.

Winds Of Victory (Ace-Divin Lumiere) scored a runaway victory in the Priceless Polly Plate. Winds of Victory and Laxman Singh’s Natalia, which had won its previous start, shared the favouritism at 5-4 each, while the other five runners were at longer odds. As they started off for the 1400 metres trip, Winds of Victory led the pack with Natalia in chase. Into the straight for the final run, Natalia began to apply pressure but in vain as Winds Of Victory stretched out effortlessly to extend the margin.

Trainer Anupam Sharma who ended the day on a memorable note, saddling four winners, started off with Kianoosh (Ivory Touch-Twothousandfour) in the Deccan Bookmakers Trophy. Kianoosh, who had not won a race for almost a year, made every post a winning one over the nine furlongs trip. Apprentice K. Mukesh Kumar brought Kianoosh from the outermost draw to get to the front at start. Bound For Glory and Exclusive Lady followed the leader together with Silver Cruise in fourth. Coming in about four lengths in front of the favourite Silver Cruise, Kianoosh continued to kick on. Silver Cruise did not make any impression despite Suraj Narredu’s urgings and ended up fourth after Kohinoor Revanta and Cheyenne came from behind to finish second and third respectively.

The other three winners for Anupam came through Bernabeu, Amazing Weapon and Symbol of Honour, all of them ridden by Carlos Henrique. Bernabeu (Don Micheletto-Blue Spirit) bounced back to winning ways in the division I of the Srisailam Plate, giving jockey Carlos Henrique his first winner of the season. K.Satheesh’s ward Transition which was looking to complete a hat-trick was the favourite in the race. Transition tracked Cannon Law till the top of the straight and moved forward to lead the field and was looking good in the last 200 metres when Henrique brought Bernabeu from behind with a resolute gallop to cover ground and speed past Transition. Flower Of Temba finished third ahead of Kohinoor Destiny.

Amazing Weapon (Hurricane State-Kodava Fire) pulled off its maiden win in the lower division. Jockey Carlos Henrique took the gelding to the front from draw one. Fair And Square tracked the leader from the beginning and the two came away from the rest. Inside the last furlong Fair And Square was ridden out to challenge but Henrique rode out Amazing Weapon confidently to win comfortably. Sweety Girl came from behind late to finish third.

Symbol of Honour (Rebuttal-Seattle Swan) made every post a winning one in the lower division of the Srisailam Plate. The favourite Over Shadow which was racing in about fifth position as they turned for home, started to come closer in the last 200 metres but Henrique, who was in his elements kept going on Symbol of Honour. Ziglar and Crimson Look finished third and fourth respectively.

K.Satheesh trained Break Away (Cool Creek-Allaying), who was winless from 24 runs finally ended the drought with a hard fought win in the higher division of the Democracy Plate. It was almost a start to finish mission by the 4 year old filly. Break Away was joined by Nano Tribute midway up the straight for a brief tussle but could not match strides and fell back. Sharp Victor then came with a strong run and looked dangerous but Break Away carried the lead to the wire to win by a ‘neck’. The one to impress most towards the closing stages was Jaz Elle which came flying from nowhere to finish third, another ‘short head’ behind. Jaz Elle was lethargic at start, missing over eight lengths and travelled towards the rear till entering the straight. When the filly was let free on the extreme outside, she came tearing down the stretch and almost made it to the finish.

Donald Netto trained Ceremonious (Mr. Mellon-Supromene) which had gone down narrowly in its last essay, did well to win the higher division of the Race Club Cup. Zoheb Shaikh schooled Twinklingofaneye which had an un-successful Bangalore campaign after winning on debut was the popular choice to get the 1000 metres sprint. Twinkilinofaneye showed plenty of speed at start to hit the front and lead. The filly came in first on the straight but started to drift out of the straight course. Ceremonious got stronger under Kiran Naidu and surged past the favourite to win by two lengths. Twinklingofaneye finished second, ahead of Globetrotter and Captain Nemo.
