ENERGETIC LASS SCORES A STUNNING UPSET

Anupam Sharma trained Energetic Lass (Epicentre-Moon Beam) pulled off a stunning upset in the Bhagyanagar Cup. The 4 year old filly who was going over the 2200 metres trip for the first time, settled well in third behind Cheyenne and Kohinoor Blitz. They raced in that order till approaching the last 800 metres and from there on jockey Ravinder Singh started to urge Energetic Lass and the filly moved quickly to be a close second behind Cheyenne. On entering the final straight Energetic Lass surged forward with ease and stretched out to win by over six lengths. Cheyenne held on to finish second from Vijays Victory. Symbol of Victory was fourth while the favourite Enigma did not live up to the expectation and ended up a poor fifth.

Killer Instinct (Glory of Dancer-Contrarian) from the stables of Laxman Singh scored a maiden victory in the higher division of the Brave Dancer Plate. Settling in about fourth position, behind Nano Tribute, Meri Merzi and Turf Queen, Killer Instinct responded readily to A.M.Tograllu’s urgings and took charge approaching the last furlong. Nirvana and Jerrel rallied strongly towards the closing stages to finish second and third respectively. Turf Queen was fourth. Aoura Apura Apura was withdrawn before the race.

Trainer D.Netto was the only professional to score a double.  Most Impressive (Storm Trooper-Calis) who was winless from ten starts finally made it to the winner’s enclose in the higher division of the Brave Dancer Plate. Time For Smile led the field early, followed closely by Sharp Victor and Most Impressive settled well in third. Entering the home stretch, Sharp Victor was the first to take the initiative and surged forward. Jockey Suraj Narredu started to work his way on Most Impressive and the filly started to get stronger to beat Sharp Victor by half a length. Time For Smile finished third.

Netto had started off with his 3 year old chestnut gelding   Winds And Waves (Sussex-Venice) scoring in the Trade Fair Plate, the first race of the day. Golden Phantom led the field of five hurses, with Mount Titlis in close attendance and the favourite Wind And Waves racing third about six lengths behind. On the final straight, Mount Titlis moved alongside Golden Phantom and forged ahead to take charge. Wind And Waves too some time to quicken but once he did, accelerated resolutely to flash past and justify the favouritism.

K.Satheesh schooled Modern Sniper (Noverre-Wonder Smile) did well on debut to win the Soviet Star Plate, a six furlongs sprint for two year olds. Tracking Save The Nation till the top of the straight, Modern Sniper surged forward easily and win by ove three lengths. Save The Nation finished second. Sunday Beauty was third.

Faiyaz Shaikh trained Sheridan (Cool Creek-Sherie Rose) came good to win the higher division of the Hussain Sagar Cup. Jumping out smartly from an outward draw, Sheridan hit the front at start. Pakat Pakat Pakat joined quickly along the inner fence and surged ahead to lead. Into the straight Pakat Pakat Pakat was still going well, being relentless, even as Sheridan and Ceremonious started to come with a challenge. Sheridan finally managed to forge forward and win by a length from Pakat Pakat Pakat. True Friend came with a late charge to snatch the third place from Ceremonious.

Srinivas Reddy trained Sweety Girl (Ivory Touch-Highland Fling) won the lower division. Cannon Law and Catalina came in together into the home stretch and Symbol of Honour got stronger along the inner rails and surged forward to hit the front. The grey filly Sweety Girl got stronger from behind and galloped resolutely to flash past Symbol of Honour and win by four and a half lengths. 

Jockey Nilesh Rawal rode out K.S.V.Prasad Raju’s trainee Strides of Glory (Burden of Proof-Saddle Star) to win the higher division of the Red Orchid Plate. The favourite Win And Enjoy took the lead right from the start over the 1400 metres trip and came in with a clear lead of over three lengths into the home stretch. Inside the last 150 metres Any Given Time, Azaiba and Strides of Glory came charging towards the leader and all three managed to peg back Win And Enjoy. Strides of Glory won the race with Any Given Time finishing second and Azaiba third, with a ‘head’ and half a length separating them. Win And Enjoy was fourth another ‘head’ behind.

Trainer L.V.R.Deshmukh and jockey P.S.Chouhan combination could manage only one win, through Winjoy (Refuse to Bend-Iies Piece) in the lower division , the concluding race of the day. Street Magic set out on a start to finish bid over the 1400 metres trip, followed by Ziglar and the favourite Winjoy racing third. Into the straight, Street Magic stepped up the momentum and Winjoy also moved up to challenge. Inside the last 200 metres Winjoy got stronger and sped past Strret Magic to win by over three lengths. Prince of Arabia warmed up late to get the better of Street Magic for the second place. Prince Prashant finished a close fourth
