Trainer P C Tejaswi leading Sweet Timer (R Vaibhav Up), winner of The Committee Trophy

P.C.Tejaswi trained Sweet Timer (Eljohar-Daddy’s Girl) scored an upset win in the Committee Trophy that featured the eight races card at Mysore on Wednesday. The 7 year old gelding which had moved its base to Mysore during the summer season here was ridden to a pillar to post victory by R.Vaibhav. Sweet Timer paid a whopping Rs.652 for a tenner. Starting off in front from the start, Sweet Timer caught his opponents by surprise when he stepped up the pace to extend the lead to over four lengths on entering the home straight. Infatuation and Brigadier, the two main market fancies started to bridge the gap but Sweet Timer held on to win by a neck. Infatuation was the runner-up while Brigadier ended up third another half a length behind.

Jockey R.Vaibhav was the most successful professional on the day, booting home a treble. His other two winners came in the first two races of the day through Rising Rani and Samajdar, both trained by C.D.Monnappa. Rising Rani (Mull of Kintyre-Flying Rani) won the opener, a 1200 metres sprint for maiden 2 year olds. The Back Bencher was on a start to finish bid, while debutant Rising Rani raced in about fifth position as they turned for home. Moving steadily, Rising Rani joined the leader near the distance post and drew away to win by 7 ½ lengths.

Samajdaar (San Fransisco-Star Class) whose solitary win from 27 runs was in Mysore, won the K.R.S.Plate. Coming into the final 400 metres, Youre A Legend was the first to take the initiative and move ahead of the front running Chantilly Jewel. Samajdaar was brought by Vaibhav from behind and the 5 year old gelding took charge inside the last 200 metres. Queens Cruise was finishing on strongly towards the closing stages but fell short by a ‘neck’ at the finish. The Senator and Snow Peaks finished third and fourth respectively.

Vishal Yadav trained Demanding Format (Hymn-Flaming Bay) which was disqualified after winning its last essay for traces of Paracetamol being found in post-race urine sample won the Treasure’s Nest Plate, a seven furlongs race for horses rated above 60. Crrisp went on a start to finish mission, maintaining a four lengths lead even as they moved into the last 300 metres. Demanding Formant which received strong support in the betting was sent in as the favourite against its nine rivals. The 5 year old mare was racing towards the rear in about eighth position even as they entered the home stretch and it looked to be a big ask for her at that stage. Jockey Arshad Alam pulled her out and made a bid on the extreme outside, Demanding Format covered plenty of ground and just managed to peg Crrisp at the wire. Askan finished a close third in the same ‘picture’. Askhan was a bit unlucky not to have made it successfully in the race. The rider of Askhan after brushing the inner rails somewhere near the 800 metres had his right leg hanging loose after the stirrup leather gave way on top of the straight and could not offer his best. Askhan would have been a big threat to both Demanding Format and Crrisp but for that incident.

Bipin V Salvi trained Absolute Pleasure (Gaswar-Killarney) reproduced her winning form to score an encore in the higher division of the Nagarahole Plate, a 1200 metres sprint for horses rated 40 to 65. The filly was backed to the exclusion of the other runners, sent in at 100-75 ‘on’. Rushing to hit the front at start, Absolute Pleasure was in firm control with jockey S.John settling her well. On the home stretch the filly kicked on well to maintain the lead till the finish without being extended. Going by the way the filly won the race a hat-trick is well on the cards. Sand Dune beat Azure Fire for the second place.

S.Rakesh trained Ace Princess (Ace-Persepolis) sent in as the second favourite at 4-1 won the lower division. Leading from the word ‘go’, Ace Princess had a lead of almost four lengths as they turned for home. The favourite Bandito racing in about fourth found the path along the inside opening up and jockey Y.S.Srinath went for that run readily. Bandito was quickening well along the inside and the rider felt it best to come from the outside of the ‘Princess’ and shifted out. Bandito inched closer with every stride but failed to collar Ace Princess by a ‘head’. Many of the knowledgeable race goers felt that Srinath had erred in his judgement to shift his mount out when there was enough (and more) gap along the inside. Had he continued to gallop on the inside the result would probably have gone in his favour. Coffee Time finished third.

Shining Fame (Concordial-Abish) from the stables of M.Bobby which had finished second in its last outing a week ago came good to win the Shakeleshpur Plate. Tracking the leader Amber Star till turning for home, Shining Fame surged forward to take charge under Saddam Hussain and stretched out well to win by five lengths. Harini, who received strong support to be the favourite, moved to be second inside the last 350 metres and chased the winner all the way. Aerial Acrobat and Small Cruise filled the frame in that order.

Jockey Arshad Alam who had ridden Demanding Format to victory completed a back to back double when he rode Ranjeet Shinde trained Queen’s Colour (Brave Act-Kariba) to a start to finish win, in the Bandipur Plate. World is toomuch tried its best to collar the leader but failed in its effort and lost the second place to a fast finishing Unchallenged. The favourite Historica finished a tame fourth.
