L.V.R.Deshmukh trained Vijay’s Pride (Bertolini-Blue Sonata) was gifted with the Indian Navy Rolling Challenge Trophy in the Steward’s room after stable mate Machiavellianism got relegated following an objection by the third placed Kohinoor Wish. Vijay’s Pride ridden by P.S.Chouhan had originally placed second. For the connections of Maciavellianism – the’ pink, red stars’ silks and trainer Deshmukh - there was nothing to lose by the outcome of the objection, as a more popular stable companion sporting the same colours was awarded the trophy.

Naughty Gal went to the lead within the first furlong and set a decent pace. Nasheeta, raced in second, followed by Don Valentino, Kohinoor Wish, Vijay’s Pride, Ocean Side, Machiavellianism and The Leader tailed off last as the headed past the half way mark of the mile trip. Rounding the bend Kohinoor Wish made quick headway to get to striking position and Machiavellianism also improved around the field to make its bid. Inside the last 400 metres Kohinoor Wish took charge with Machiavellianism closing in from the outside. As Maciavellianish shifted in towards the rails, Kohinoor Wish was hampered for a clear run and had to be checked by S.John. While Kohinoor Wish lost its stride, Vijays Pride surged past to finish second behind Machiavellianism.

Jockey S.John, the rider of Kohinoor Wish lodged an objection against the winner Machiavellianism for interference. The Stewards upheld John’s contention and relegated Machiavellianism to the third position. Vijay’s Pride which had originally finished second was declared the winner. Kohinoor Wish was the runner-up in the revised order.

The ‘gift’ win enabled P.S.Chouhan to complete a hat-trick along with his trainer L.V.R.Deshmukh. The duo won both the divisions of the Onnu Onnu Onnu Plate. Musical Note (Whipper-Russian Muse) lifted the upper division, staving off the late challenge of Lovely Angel. Deal Maker set out in front over the 1200 metres sprint and didn’t look to give it up easily as the came in for the final furlong. P.S.Chouhan kept urging Musical Note and the filly responded to head to the front with a little over 100 metres left from home. Lovely Angel came up strongly towards the finish but fell short by a ‘head’ at the wire. Deal Maker finished third.

Shamrock Lady (Ace-Sure Future), whose only defeat in three starts was in the Fillies Championship Stakes, bounced back to winning ways in the lower division. The daughter of Ace took a quick jump from an outward draw and led the field all the way till the finish. Power Planet finished second ahead of Camacho Speed.

S.A.Shehzad Abbas trained Cornwallis (Burden of Proof-Polenta) went on a start to finish bid in the Corden Rouge Plate, a five and a half furlongs dash for 2 year old maiden horses and won by a lengthening margin of over seven lengths.  Red Rambble improved late to finish second ahead of Nano Class. Dad’s Dollar and Symbol of Glory finished fourth and fifth respectively after tracking the winner till the last 300 metres.

Noble Citizen (Glory of Dance-Dance Diva) from the stables of Laxman Singh was ridden by A.M.Tograllu to a maiden win in the Chirala Cup. Sent in as the favourite among the dozen runners for the mile trip, Noble Citizen hit the front at start, followed closely by Chocolate Soldier and Field Smasher. Inside the last 250 metres Princess Cruise improved to be second and started to put pressure on Noble Citizen. Tograllu rode out Noble Citizen to stay in front and spared a length and a half at the finish. Fairy Emperor got the better of Princess Cruise in the closing stages to finish second.

The biggest upset of the day came through Fashionista (Puerto Madero-Amidst) in the higher division of the Sangam Plate. The 4 year old filly from K.V.Srinivas’s yard, which was a maiden even after 24 starts, raised a resolute gallop in the last 100 metres to shed its maiden rank. This was also the first win for apprentice G.Naresh. After leading for a brief distance from the start, Fashionista settled in third behind Kathakali and Aoura Aoura Aoura. As they came into the straight Aoura Aoura Aoura started to drift out of the straight course and lost all its chances. Fashionista came up with renewed challenge in the final 100 metres to surge forward and win by 1 ½ lengths. Kathakali finished second while Salvadore and Hard Hit filled the frame in that order.

August Kranti (Emerald Cat-Aly Tuck) scored a maiden win in the lower division to give trainer Laxman Singh his double for the day. Dazzling Princess set off in front followed by Silver Arnage and Nano Tribute while August Kranti raced in fourth position till entering the straight. Inside the last 200 metres August Kranti came charging under apprentice S.S.Tanwar and sped past to win comfortably. Silver Arnage finished second ahead of Dazzling Princess.
