Into the home stretch for the final run Rio Grande started to lean outward and Crrisp which was beginning to forge ahead being hampered considerably. Jockey Saddam Hussain continued to ride out Crrisp and despite the interference surged forward to take charge and go clear. Color Me finished on to be second in front of Rio Grande.

Jockey S.Chandrashekar who had recently come back to riding after undergoing a suspension and nursing a broken arm, had a nasty fall on Perfect Cruise in the fourth race of the day, the lower division of the Panaji Plate. He was rushed to the hospital with serious head injuries and has been operated since. His condition remains to be precarious and is being monitored.

Trainer S.Rakesh who was going through a lean patch reaped it rich with a treble through Indian Hero, Obelinna Princess and Castle King. The first two named were piloted by Suraj Narredu. The only other jockey to score a double was Y.S.Srinath.

Flying Tricolour set out in front, setting up a lead of over eight lengths as they neared the last 600 metres. As they came into the final straight Flying Tricolour started to weaken and the race favourite Castle King slipped in along the rails under apprentice Sarvan Kumar to grab the lead. Carisa improved late from the extreme outside to finish second ahead of Spark of Beauty. Ashkan reared up as the gates opened and raced riderless.

Small Cruise and Corbet Queen raced in front together followed closely by Indian Hero. Turning for home the two in front started to drift out and Suraj was quick to guide Indian Hero towards the shortest way. Rusty came with a strong challenge inside the last 150 metres but failed to collar Indian Hero by a ‘neck’. Natural Nine finished on to be third another ‘neck’ behind after passing through traffic woes.

Jockey Y.S.Srinath scored his double through Michael Eshwer trained Secret Treasure and Bipin V Salvi’s Words of Wisdom. Secret Treasure (Hurricane Center-Secret Star) won its third successive start, all in the current season. Tracking Ace Princess, who was on a start to finish bid, Secret Treasure started to gallop strongly on the straight and stretched out well to complete a hat-trick. The 8 year old Prezzie (Juniper-Landrail) which had found one better in its previous three starts came with a sizzling gallop inside the last 200 metres in the lower division of the Panaji Plate, to down Spinning Chakram who was on a start to finish bid. Rickety Rock and Tornado Force filled the judge’s frame in that order. Divine Friendship was withdrawn after being troublesome inside the gates.

Another 8 year old Precept (Juniper-Takwim), from P.C.Tejaswi’s stables scored an upset win in the higher division, the concluding race of the day.
