FINK SPRINTS TO AN IMPRESSIVE WIN

Micheal Eshwer trained Fink (Phoenix Tower-Fleurissimo) scored an encore in the Rajkumari Leelavathi Devi Memorial Trophy, a 1200 metres sprint for 3 year old horses, that featured the seven races card on Wednesday. The dark bay son of Phoenix Tower, a winner on debut, won its second start in an impressive fashion, chipping off 0.70 seconds from its earlier effort. Precious Replica started off in front from the start and Fink came in well from an outward draw to settle down behind the leader. Into the straight for the final run, Fink forged ahead with ease and was unchallenged till the post. Rising Rani Moved to be second inside the last 200 metres and was there till the finish. Precious Replica finished third. Pipes of Peace was withdrawn before the race.

Jockey J.H.Christopher was in the limelight, booting home a unique treble. Bipin V. Salvi’s Spark of Beauty (Warrshan-Yes No Maybe) was his first success in the Bababudan Giri Plate, a seven furlongs trip for horses rated 60 and above. Friendless Spark of Beauty rushed to grab the lead immediately after the start. Carisa and Secret Treasure began to get closer with inside the last 250 metres but Christopher kept riding out the 7 year and the mare held on by half a length. Carisa finished second ahead of Secret Treasure. The favourite Color Me fell back from a prominent position early in the race and with a late effort on the extreme outside finished fourth.

His second win came in the very next race, the Hampi Plate, with J.Saravanan trained Impressiveattitude (Duja-Santella Katie). The 5 year old gelding which had won its last start a fortnight ago was installed as the favourite. Setting out in front from the start, Impressiveattitude kicked on gamely to score an encore. Virtuoso was pulled out from the rails inside the last 200 metres to challenge the leader but found Impressiveattitude too hard to catch and ended up second. Amiable Lady ran on to be third.

Christopher rode a double for trainer Saravanan to complete his treble with Ayman (Danehill Star-Didjeridu) in the higher division of the Ooty Plate. Blue Zone set out on a start to finish bid and was looking good inside the last 150 metres. Ayman started to raise a gallop from around the field and with a flourish flashed past to down Blue Zone in the dying moments of the race. Thrillseeker and Mother Ewa finished third and fourth respectively.

M.Bobby trained Secret Missile (Crown Jewels-Henna) pulled it off in the lower division. Shubkamna came out of the outermost draw and moved quickly to take it up along the fence. Secret Missile also joined to dispute the lead. The duo drew away from the rest and as they headed past the distance post, the bottom weighted Secret Missile traveled the better and extended the lead. Black Dragon finished third in front of Siena. The favourite Santa Maria dropped out of contention after racing third till the bend and it was observed to be trotting lame on left fore.     

There was a mishap in the Mangalore Plate, the concluding race of the day. Born Electric came down heavily after passing the 1000 metres its rider, M.D.Paswan had to be shifted to the hospital in a serious condition. The favourite Beautiful Fin, ridden by M.Prabhakaran in his eagerness to get to the front moved quickly towards the inner rails. Born Electric which was already along the rails clipped the hind legs of Beautiful Fin and dropped down in a nasty manner. Born Electric was put to sleep and Paswan has been shifted to the hospital where his condition is reported to be critical. Beautiful Fin then settled in second behind Amber Star till turning for home and surged clear on entering the straight. Arc Angel finished second while Catwalk Queen got the better of Aerial Acrobat for the third spot.

C.V.G.K.Kishore trained Admiranda (Inner City-Luckchickluck) won the Spark of Life Plate, the opener of the day. Admiranda tracked the early leader Duty Free till entering the home stretch and went ahead inside the last 350 metres. Duty Free ran on to be second while Kishore’s Concentration warmed up late to take the third spot.
