Mr Vijay Kumar Gupta, Mr Ahmed Alam Khan & trainer Laxman Singh leading Ray Of Light (A M Tograllu Up), winner of The M.C.E.M.E.Rolling Trophy

Laxman Singh trained Ray of Light (Ace-Radiate) sporting the silks of the Poonawallas completed a fine hat-trick from as many starts, in the M.C.E.M.E.Rolling Trophy, the main event of the eight races card at Hyderabad. The daughter of Ace got straight down to business as the eleven runners were despatched from the gates and won as she liked over the seven furlongs trip. The filly has been tackling the additional furlong with poise, every time from her first win and should be persisted with till she meets her match. Havoc and Aware fought out for the second place throughout the last 250 metres and finished in that order in a close finish. Montauk finished fourth.

L.V.R.Deshmukh who was having a drought of winners over the last few weeks rebounded with a hat-trick. Deshmukh engaged the services of saddle artist Imran Chisty on all the three wins. The short priced Racing Ahead (Shamardal-Rah Wa) whose last two runs were in the 2000 Guineas and the Derby, decimated the opponents in the Nawab Mir Mushtaq Ali Khan Memorial Cup. Tracking the leader Kohinoor Thunder till entering the straight, Racing Ahead grabbed the lead with authority and trounced the field. Laurel Canyon, Handsome Hawk and Kohinoor Thunder filled the judge’s frame in that order.

Plenipotent (Iffraaj-Beldon Hill) completed the formality in the T.Chandrasekhar Reddy Memorial Cup, a seven furlongs trip for horses in the highest category. Always Bullish which left the paddock as the favourite in the race was withdrawn near the gates and Plenipotent was the obvious choice in the reduced field of three runners. Rushing to the front as the gates opened, Plenipotent led the field with Sweet Candy and Melody Queen in tow. Inside the last furlong Sweet Candy tried to throw a challenge but Plenipotent was well clear and stayed well.

Rapidest (Ad Valorem-Rathvin Raven) made every post a winning one in the King’s Crown Plate, a five and a half furlongs dash for 3 year old maiden horses. Rapidest improved quickly from the outermost draw under Imran Chisty to get to the front early. Rapidest came in first on the home straight and stretched out easily with Chisty holding the youngster on tight reins. Green Olive just managed to get the better of Naamdhari for the second place. Rebellion finished fourth after racing second till the last furlong.

Trainer Donald Netto and jockey Kuldeep Singh kept their scores ticking with Stolen Date (Sussex-Hunting Girl) scoring an encore in the lower division of the Illustrious Reign Plate. Kuldeep rode the filly to be second behind the leader Novaya Zemlya as they approached the last 800 metres and surged forward easily in the last 300 metres. Golden Dash finished second in front of Sharp Victor. Novaya Zemlya finished fourth.

Great Guns (Mr.Mellon-Halos And Horns) from S.S.Faisal Hassan’s stables scored an encore after a hard fought battle in the higher division. Fashionista hit the front early in the race and was still ahead as the came into the final furlong. Great Guns joined the issue inside the last 200 metres and Symbol of Beauty also came tearing down. Fashionista lost out and the other two went stride for stride and were locked together at the wire. The ‘magic eye’ went in favour of Great Guns, which had held on by a ‘short head’ with some enthusiastic riding by A.Ashhad Asbar. Fashionista was third another length and three quarters away. The favourite In Reality ended up fourth.

Anupam Sharma saddled a double, winning both the divisions of the Dinky Do Plate. Khalis Gold (Sharp Attack-Chivas Gold) justified the favouritism in the higher division. After racing towards the rear, in about eighth position in the first 600 metres, Khalis Gold improved to be in striking position as they approached the final bend. Into the home stretch Arriviste was quick to forge ahead and lead the field. Khalis Gold was urged by Ravinder Singh in the last furlong and the 5 year old responded readily to surge past Arriviste towards the closing stages and spare half a length at the finish. Half Moon Bay and Salvadore finished third a fourth respectively. An objection by the rider of Salvadore against that of Half Moon Bay for interference on top of the straight was overruled.

The well supported Amazing Power (Chatham Strait-Yvresse) was ridden by apprentice K.Mukesh Kumar to a fine win in the lower division. Racing a handy fourth as they came into the final straight, Amazing Power forced its way through horses to grab the lead with 350 metres left from home and stretched out well to establish a lead of over five lengths. Tricks of Gold stayed on in second ahead of Turf Queen.  The rider of Turf Queen raised an objection against the winner for pushing his mount while making a move and the stewards overruled that to retain the original order of placing.
