Col. S B Nair & trainer M Srinivas Reddy leading Desire (Imran Chisty Up), winner of The Golconda Juvenile Million (Gr.3)

M.Srinivas Reddy trained Desire (Glory of Dancer-Another Star) won the Golconda Juvenile Million- Grade III, the feature event at Hyderabadon Monday. The Million, a terms race over seven furlongs for 3 year old horses had just four youngsters lined up with all of them being winners on debut. Vijay Viraaj among them was the overwhelming favourite, sent in at cramped odds. Modern Sniper was second in demand at 11-2 while Desire at a more liberal odds of 8-1. Panachecorn was at odds for the asking.

Miodern Sniper set the pace from the start followed closely by Desire. Vijay Viraaj settled well in third along the fence while Panachecorn after a sluggish beginning joined the bunch approaching the half way mark. Into the straight for the final run, Modern Sniper was relentless even as the favourite began to get stronger along the shortest way. Desire started to veer out when asked for an effort and with jockey Imran Chisty continuing to ride out vigorously the filly did well to forge ahead in the last 100 metres. Vijay Raaj finished second in front of Modern Sniper.

L.V.R.deshmukh trained Tintinnabulation (Intikhab-Tourmalet), winner of the St.leger during last Monsoon here, reproduced that run to win the Sri S.Ramakrishnam Raju Memorial Cup, the supporting race of the day. Back on the track after nearly four months, Tintinnabulation was settled well in third along the rails while Vocation called the shots followed closely by Vijays Champ. As they came into the home stretch, jockey Y.S.Srinath let Tintinnabulation grab the lead and the 5 year old did that readily to win by a measure of comfort. Sherman Oaks held on to the second place from a late finishing Snow Bird. Mystical Knight ended up fourth.

Dear Friend (Noverre-Shirly Moon) from the stables of K.Satheesh which had finished second three times and placed third once from four starts won the Storm Trooper Plate in a facile manner. Moving to be second as Symbol of Choice took over the running as they turned for home, Dear Friend surged forward with ease inside the last 350 metres. C Eleven improved to be the runner-up while Rosemonde which was the youngster in the limelight involving the suspension of jockey P.S.Chouhan failed to justify the favouritism after going wide around the final bend and finishing a tame third.

L.D’Silva trained Palm Springs (Placerville-Shalaya) made every post a winning one in the higher division of the Rock of Gibraltar Cup. Heading the field of nine runners from the start, Palm Springs extended well when its rider Kuldeep Singh asked for more on the straight and stretched away to spare three lengths at the foinish. Amazon Princess and Musical Note finished second and third respectively in a close finish after racing together all the way. Kohinoor Desire was fourth another ‘neck’ away.

Jockey Kuldeep Singh had piloted D.Netto’s Ancillary (Lucifer Sam-Auxiliary) to a popular victory in the lower division, the first race of the day. Ancillary ran almost second last with just Transition behind till the last 600 metres while Coral Springs led the field followed by the rest juggling places. Inside the last two furlongs Ancillary started to improve positions and surged past the front runners easily. Coral Springs held on to finish second from Lovely Angel which warmed up late from the outside.

T.Srinagesh’s Pakat Pakat Pakat (Epicentre-Crystal Beauty), winless from 30 starts was gifted one, in the higher division of the Don Micheletto Plate after the original winner Homely Helo was disqualified following a steward’s enquiry. Taking off from the outermost draw, Homely Helo came in sharply to get to the fence and in the process crowded up half a dozen horses. Travelling well after that Homely Helo won by a clear margin. The Stewards called for an enquiry into the running of the favourite Homely Helo and decided to disqualify it. Pakat Pakat Pakat which had just managed to peg back Chayanandan for the second place was elevated as the winner.

Trainer K.S.V.Prasad Raju saddled a double with Bold Attack and Chief Execurtive, both ridden by P.Sai Kumar. Bold Attack (Sharp Attack-Tarq Asmi) hit the front at start and made every post a winning one. Star Engagement and Desert Bloom finished second and third respectively after chasing the winner all the way from the start.

Chief Executive (Sharp Attack-Executive Angel) scored an encore in the Tribute Plate, the concluding race of the day. Improving to be second behind the leader Noble Citizen as they approached the final bend, Chief Executive galloped well to take charge inside the last 300 metres. Noble Citizen finished second while Chocolate Soldier ended up third.

On a day dominated by favourites, Laxman Singh trained August Kranti (Emerald Cat-Aly Tuck) justified the short price to score an encore in the Artistic Tribute Plate. A Horizontal Urge set out in front as is its usual pattern and August Kranti settled well in second. As they came into the final straight the leader started to weaken and August Kranti went ahead and stayed well till the winning post. Go For Gold, Field Smasher and Vijays Tycoon filled the frame in that order in a close finish amongst them.

For the professionals Trainer K.S.V.Prasad Raju, Jockeys Kuldeep Singh and P.Sai Kumar scored a brace each.
