Trainer Feroz M Khan leading Galaxy Queen (Shobhan Babu Up), winner of The Aandolana Trophy

Feroz Khan trained Galaxy Queen (Mull of Kintyre-Premier Galaxy) was piloted fiercely by Shobhan Babu to lift the Aandolana Trophy that featured  the day’s races at Mysore.  Galaxy Queen raced in mid-field all the way from the start till rounding the final turn. On entering the home straight the field spread out and Brillante was the first to take the initiative. Galaxy Queen was in the centre of the track and when the path in front opened up Shobhan Babu urged the filly to go for it and she responded brilliantly to step up the momentum and grab the lead inside the last 300 metres. Ayman warmed up late and started to close the gap but the ‘Queen’ was home and dry by half a length. Brillante finished on being third while Royal Prodigy came in late to be fourth.

Trainer S.Rakesh was in the limelight again with a stunning quadruple. Rimcolian, Smart Mistral, Chandini and Mother Ewa were the victors from the stable. The first and the last named were ridden by Ryan Marshall.

Rimcolian (Sedgefield-Hidden Danger) won the Indi Plate, a 1200 metres sprint for 3 year old maiden horses. The chestnut colt was blazing the track in the morning trials and he was rightfully installed as the firm favourite at 10-9 ‘on’. Vroom Vroom went ahead to lead the field within the first 100 metres from the start. Rimcolian had improved gradually to run second as they came into the final straight. Galloping well, Rimcolian shot ahead quickly and stayed well till the finish. Spiritual Blue finished an impressive second while Ultimate Princess warmed up late to take the third spot. The long time leader Vroom Vroom ended up fourth.

Mother Ewa and Chandini wrapped up the first and the second divisions of the Sriharikota Plate. Mother Ewa (Juniper-Wine N Song) whose only win from ten starts was a year ago was backed to the exclusion of the other runners in the higher division. On moving towards the last two furlongs, Black Dragon headed past Cesaria to take over the lead but started to veer out of the straight course. Jockey Ryan Marshall on the favourite urged his mount to quicken and she galloped fluently to justify the short price. Thrillseeker held on to the third place from the late finishing Miss International.

Chandini (Crown Jewels-Princess Chand) ridden by apprentice Sarvan Kumar won the lower division. For Your Eyes Only had originally finished second and the favourite Vettel third. Dashrath Singh, the rider of Vettel objected both against the winner and the runner-up for severe interference in the last 250 metres and the Stewards also called for an enquiry into the running of the race.

For Your Eyes Only had improved gradually to be second behind Maverical as they rounded the final turn and surged forward on entering the straight. Chandini started to move closer from the inside and Vettel also began to get stronger from the outside. The filly in front suddenly started to drift out of the straight course and Chandini which was just behind also veered out thereby interfering with Vettel. Chandini then picked up speed and won by three parts of a length from For Your Eyes Only and Vettel ended up third a ‘neck’ behind.   After going through the replays of the race the Stewards overruled the objection against the winner and upheld the one against the runner-up.  For Your Eyes Only was relegated to the third position in the revised order.

Smart Mistral (Sedgefield-Oberon’s Mistral) which had not placed in any of its five starts till now made it a start to finish affair in the higher division of the Vesuvius Plate at longer odds. Jumping out smartly from an outward draw, Smart Mistral showed plenty of speed to get to the fence and lead. Inside the last 400 metres Rakesh’s ward kicked with ease to score a maiden win. Snow Peaks finished second ahead of Rocket Ronnie.

Bipin V Salvi trained Queen’s Cruise (Sizzling Melody-Special One) winless from twenty nine outings finally made it to the winner’s enclosure in the lower division, the first race of the day. The seven year old went to the front early. Magnifique tracked the leader with the favourite Lake of Magic racing a close third. As they straightened for home, Lake of Magic tried to slip in along the rails but Queen’s Cruise stepped up the pace and extended the margin. Admiranda began to get stronger inside the last 100 metres and came with a flourish but failed to collar Queen’s Cruise by a ‘neck’. Lake of Magic finished third. Peppr, Youre A Legend and Heart Of Success were non-starters in the race.

Ranjeet Shinde trained Getafix (Black Cash-Czarina) which had found one better in its last two starts scored an upset victory in the Aperitivo Plate. The six year old gelding jumped out smartly from draw 12 and moved quickly to the fence to race second behind Flying Tricolour. Entering the straight Getafix surged forward to take charge from the weakening Flying Tricolour. Historica, Speedy Amigo and Time Flies were in hot chase in the last 200 metres but Getafix kicked on gamely till the finish and the three finished in that order in a close finish amongst them. Amazer was withdrawn on veterinary grounds.

The 8 year old Brigade’s Passion (Tirol-Mirabelle) from Dinesh Pujar’s stables made every post a winning one in the Ellora Plate. Concentration was in hot chase all through the straight but jockey V.R.Jagadeesh on Brigade’s Passion kept riding out to have his mount a little over a length in front at the finish. Breezo made it to the money while the favourite Take Off finished a tame fourth. It was announced later that Take Off had returned lame on left fore.

C.V.G.K.Kishore trained Royal Shaan (Royal Gladiator-Shanavi) scored an upset in the Gulburga Plate, the concluding race of the day. The seven years old went to the front early but was soon passed by Ice Splendour. Entering the home stretch Royal Shaan grabbed the lead quickly from Ice Splendour and kicked on well. The favourite Sofast was lacking the momentum and lost the second place to the late finishing Distant Promise.
