A FINE FEAT BY UNTAPABLE IN THE KENTUCKY OAKS

Untapable (Rosie Napravnik Up), winner of The Longines Kentucky Oaks (Gr.1)
The Even money favourite Untapable trained by Steve Asmussen and ridden by Rosie Napravnik justified the overwhelming support with a thumping victory in the G1 Kentucky Oaks at the Churchill Downs. The bay rallied in third behind Sugar Shock and My Miss Sophia, on the far side. Approaching the bend Sugar Shock packed up fast and My Miss Sophia headed to the front. Untapable quickly shifted gears and coasted ahead to spare 4 ½ lengths over the ‘Miss’ in a smart timing of 1 m 48.68 s, that was a shade slower than the stakes record. Unbridled Forever finished third another six lengths behind.
This was the second Oaks success for both the trainer and the jockey. Steve Asmussen had won it with Summerly in 2005 while Rosie Napravnik was the first woman jockey to win the race on Believe You Can two years ago.
"She was really great," said the 26 year old Napravnik. "She got into a great stride and relaxed. She is magnificent. I wasn't worried about post position like so many other people were. She ran her race. She's learned to relax. She's matured. She's growing up."
