Bangalore : 13 three-year old thoroughbreds are competing in The 1400m Nanoli Stud Juvenile  Million, Gr.2, a Terms race for 3 years old only, to be run here on Sunday 25th May 2014. And it is scheduled to be the 6th race in a card of 9 events and will be run at 4.00pm. The winners stakes is a lavish Rs.10,67,069. In my opinion, the best chance to win this prestigious race, lie with the brilliant bay colt- Be Safe 59Kg who is presently very fit, as he has shone in his recent work-outs on the Outer Sand on 21/5 and 22/5.

Be Safe [Holy Roman Emperor - Oriental Lady-IRE],  trained by Malesh Narredu is an extremely classy colt who possesses a tremendous turn of foot, has run 4 races, won thrice  and ran 2nd in his last run on 23/2/2014 in The 1400M Poonawalla Breeders’ Multi-Million,Gr.1 a race, which he should have easily have won, but unfortunately lost, due to highly pathetic riding. Be that as it may, his stylish victories were (1) His maiden win on 27/10/2013 in Pune over 1000M by a widening 2-1/2L and (2) On 29/12/2013 in Mumbai-The 1200M Zoroastrian Multi-Million in 1M-11.14s beating two good juveniles viz. Maisha & Shivalik Storm. This race which he won extremely well, got him a lavish amount of Rs 9,90, 000 then, (3) on 1/2/2014. He authoritatively won the 1400M Kunigal Stud Breeders’ Produce Stakes, Gr.3 which brought him a further rich amount of Rs.10, 07,325. And the manner, in which he won this race, was akin to a Ferrari running and zooming past, a bunch of three-wheelers in the straight.

But, subsequently Be Safe lost by a neck, as the on-money favorite in the 1400M Poonawalla Breeders’ Multi-Million, Gr.1 due to the lackadaisical ride by jockey B. Sreekanth who lost the lavish winner’s purse of Rs.90,66,667/-. Thereafter, Be Safe has been rested and will surely make his presence very strongly felt, after some good work-outs in Bangalore and in my opinion, win the 1400M Nanoli Stud Juvenile Million, Gr.2 on 25th May 2014 despite giving a lumps of weight all around.

Pedigree wise, Be Safe from his sire’s side, should easily get a mile and Be Safe from his Dam’s side, as given below, should get longer trips. Be Safe is exquisitely bred and his sire - Holy Roman Emperor is by Danehill[USA] out of L’On Vite[USA] from the Northern Dancer line. His sire, had 4 very classy wins, 2 places with Career Earnings of $ 764, 838 which in 2006 included the 1400M Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere (Grand Criterium), Gr.1 at Longchamp, France,  Phoenix Stakes, 6F-Gr.1 at Leopardstown, and 6F,Railway Stakes-Gr.2 at The Curragh.

His classy dam Oriental Lady is by Kings Best out of Otaiti[IRE]. Although, his dam Oriental Lady did nothing much, his classy grand dam Otaiti[IRE] (Sadlers Wells- Ode) had  Earnings of $ 73, 957 which included 2000M Prix De Liancourt, L at Longchamp,  2000M Grand Prix De Compiegne, L and came a good 2nd in 2700M Prix De Pomone, Gr.2 in Deauville, France. Plus his dam’s tail-Line is a very strong one, as it goes back to the likes of Ode, a reputed stayer, who had 4 classy wins in France, with Career Earnings of $ 861, 820.

The other three-year-old who should run a prominent race is the chestnut filly Maisha (Footstepsinthesand- My Pension), trained by Pesi Shroff,  who is presently very fit as per recent good work-outs. She is a very attractive and well-conformed filly, who has had 4 runs and has won twice very well (1) won on 24/11/2013 (Mumbai) over 1000M, being her Maiden Win and then (2) finished a very close 2nd, in her next outing to the classy colt Be Safe .on 29/12/2013 also in Mumbai in The 1200M Zoroastrian Multi-Million, possibly because, she had a very bad outer Draw 13.Then, (3) Maisha ran on18/1/2014 in the 1200M Gool S. Poonawalla Million, Gr.3 despite getting badly hampered in the race came an excellent close 2nd to the superb 3yo gelding Shivalik Storm and (4) Maisha’s last superb win was in Hyderabad on 1/3/2014 where she easily won The Deccan Bookmakers Juvenile Million, a 3yo Terms race by a widening 3-1/2L.

She has a brilliant pedigree. Her sire Footstepsinthesand had 3 starts, 3 wins, Career Earnings of a lavish GBP226,451. His wins were in 2004 Killavullan Stakes-7f, Gr.3 at Leopardstown and in 2005, he also won the 2000 Guineas Stakes, Gr.1 at Newmarket. Although Her dam My Pension did not win, her grand dam Fly Me had 3 wins, 5 places, 1 shows which incl. Two Gr.2 races and two Gr.3 races in France plus she ran 2nd in the 1984 Grand Prix De Saint-Cloud, Gr.1 and had a very good Career Earnings of 114,000 Francs.

Hence, the presently fit, well-performed and exquisitely bred filly Maisha who is carrying 53-1/2Kg and receiving 5-1/2Kg from the top-weighted Be Safe, in my opinion, should run a very prominent race and could well end up to be, the runner-up to the brilliant colt Be Safe.
