Trainer Z Darashah leading Artic Rose (Y S Srinath Up), winner of The F.B.Sharma Memorial Cup

Zareer Darashah trained Artic Rose (Rebuttal-Artic Bridge) scored a convincing win in the F.B.Sharma Memorial Cup, the feature of the second day’s races at Mysore on Wednesday. Ace Princess was the smartest out of the gates and she headed to the front to lead. Rising Romeo and Secret Hunter chased the leader with Artic Rose settled in about sixth position. Approaching the final bend Artic Rose began to improve position from the outer. With an effortless gallop the 4 year old filly sped past Ace Princess and won easily. Secret Hunter just managed to get the better of Beyond Thankful for the second place.

Trainer Pratap Kamath who started off the season with a treble on Tuesday managed to squeeze in one winner through Azure Fire (Tejano-Crown Secret) in the Nagamangala Plate, a six furlongs sprint for horses rated 60 and above. The 4 year old was off to a quick start and headed straight to the inner rails to be in the lead. Visionist, Spark of Beauty and Divine Deliverance were in chase in that order. The favourite Sofast had lost places early after getting sandwiched in the crowd and was in about seventh position as they rounded the final turn. Visionist moved strongly on the straight and had in-fact put its head in front as they went past the 300 metres board. Jockey P.S.Chouhan began to ride out with all his might and his efforts were successful. Azure Fire had managed to pull it off by a neck from Visionist. Sofast came with a flourish towards the closing stages but missed the runner-up berth by a whisker. Spark of Beauty also finished in the same frame to be fourth.

Trainer G.Srinivas Babu who has just started off his career pulled off his maiden win with Best Move (Greensmith-Pretty Move) in the Prince Regent Plate. Best Move just managed to hold on in a blanket finish involving four horses all covered within one length. Into the home stretch Queen’s Cruise was the first to show up. Badshah was close on its heels and Best Move by then was moving up from the outside. Jockey B.Mahesh on Best Move seemed to have decided that ‘come what may’, he would win the race. He picked up the stick on top of the home stretch and belted the hapless mare eighteen times all through the stretch. The one to suffer the agony was Best Move while the connections celebrated its success. Rickety Rock raced in rather late to finish a close second while Queen’s Cruise and Badshah were a ‘head’ and ‘neck’ adrift in third and fourth respectively.

Country’s Nobility (Chevalier-Ceebros) from the stables of Feroz Khan shed her maiden ranks in just her second outing in a fine manner under Arshad Alam. Tracking the early leader Royal Regina till the final bend, Country’s Nobility grabbed the lead quickly on the straight and kept at bay the attempt of Sancy towards the closing stages. Spiritual Blue and Pipes of Peace filled the frame in that order.

Dinesh Pujar trained Shubkamna (Itaquere Power-Bee Fearless) lifted the higher division of the Mysore Plate. After Silver Oak was withdrawn for refusing to get saddled, a lot of money poured on Shubkamna, who closed at 100-55 ‘on’. A last outing winner, Shubkamna, went to lead the field within the first 200 metres and won drawing away. Pamushana chased the winner all the way to be second while Golden Wisdom was a faraway third.

Black Dragon (Home Affairs-Tapioca) from J.Saravanan’s yard upset the apple cart of the favourite Paris in the second division of the race. Paris was well up in front as they entered the home stretch and was shaping like a winner when Black Dragon improving steadily through the shortest way came to challenge the favourite from the outside and snatched the victory at the post. Smart Mistral was third. Coffee Time was withdrawn on veterinary grounds.

7 Years old Spark of Blue (Warrshan-Seriously Nicole) from C Girinath’s yard was a surprise packet in the Balamuri Plate, the opener of the day. The favourite Napolean Dynamite was on the right course, leading from the start. Brigade’s Paradise came in with a challenge briefly as they came into the final straight but fizzled out soon. Spark of Blue which was running second last as they turned for home came with a long stretched run on the stand side and floored them all to win by a little over a length at the finish.
