Taghrooda kept her unbeaten record clean while scoring a thumping victory in the G1 Investec Oaks that was run in memory of Sir Henry Cecil this year, at the Epsom Downs on the Classic weekend. In doing so, the daughter of Derby winner, Sea The Stars, gave her trainer John Gosden his first in the Oaks while it was a first Classic success for jockey Paul Hanagan.

Sent in at 5-1, Taghrooda was well settled in mid-field early. Beginning to close in on the leaders she was slightly hampered for room as they neared the last 4 furlongs. Paul Hanagan reminded Taghrooda of her task as they came into the straight and the filly responded brilliantly to settle the issue a long way from the winning post. While the winner was clear by 3 3/4 lengths, Volume and Tarfasha fought a grim battle for the minor places and it was the second named who snatched the runner-up berth close to the wire to give a one-two for owner Hamdan Al Maktoum.

"It feels great, absolutely brilliant. It's what I've worked hard for” said jockey Paul Hanagan after tasting his first Classic success.

"She's the best filly today and Paul [Hanagan] rode it nicely," said the winning trainer Gosden . "She has won it well. I always thought she was a nice filly but I never boast about a horse; they have to prove it on the track", he added.
