Kyllachy’s Sole Power was on a high while retaining the title in the G1 King’s Stand Stakes. It was a moment to cherish for jockey Richard Hughes, piloting his second win of the day at Ascot.
“This horse is made for me, but things didn’t go that well as I had to pull out to the outside which you wouldn’t normally do,” said Hughes. “I had that much horse under me I’d have gone around them anywhere. He was the best horse, it’s as simple as that.”
The turn of foot that Edward Lynam trained 7 year old Sole Power produced was simply amazing. The gelding followed its instincts and did what was best known to him, playing the waiting game at the rear. Travelling all over the track Sole Power finally took the route around the field in the last furlong and with an explosive gallop silenced the rest with a 1 ¼ lengths win over the runner-up Stepper Point. Hot Streak was third close behind.
