KINGMAN STAMPS HIS AUTHORITY IN JAMES'S PALACE STAKES

It was sweet revenge for John Gosden trained Kingman in the G1 James’s Palace Stakes at Ascot where he stamped his authority to avenge the 2000 Guineas defeat over rival Night of Thunder.

Kingman was held up towards the rear, close to the last pair early. Closing up with the front runners as they neared the last two furlongs, Kingman responded swiftly to jockey James Doyle’s urgings to get to the lead inside the last 100 yards and quicken to stretch that to a good 2 1/4 lengths ahead of Night of Thunder at the finish. Outstrip finished third another length away while War Command took the fourth spot.

The winning trainer Gosden said: "Horses like this are few and far between, but we do not go round comparing ourselves to Frankel."

"It was awesome - that's the best way to describe it," said jockey James Doyle commenting on the Guineas reversal.
