PLATINUM PEARL STARTS CAREER ON A WINNING NOTE

Ranjeet Shinde trained Platinum Pearl (Lucifer Sm-Aldiora) started off his racing career with a thumping win in the Royal Western India Turf Club Ltd. Trophy, the main event of Wednesday’s seven races card at Mysore. Royal Regina which was on its second start headed to the front as the gates opened and Platinum Pearl was quick to track the filly. The two market fancies Charm And Dream and Touch of Romance followed the duo in that order. Entering the home stretch Platinum Pearl closed up on the leader and easily went past in the last 300 metres under Shobhan Babu. Royal Regina finished second while Charm And Dream ended up third ahead of Touch of Romance.

The Claret and Gold silks of Manjri Stud pulled off a popular double through progenies of Phoenix Tower, Duma in the opener and Bandito in the concluding race. Michael Eshwer trained Duma (Phoenix Tower-Firecrest) had to shed some sweat while justifying the short price in the Renowned Plate. Royal Shaan carrying a feather weight of 48 kilograms thought it best to try a start to finish tactic over the mile trip. Demanding Format was in chase followed by Duma, Distant Promise and Yamas. Into the last 400 metres jockey Y.S.Srinath who was all the way nursing Duma carrying a back breaking weight, started to make his bid. Royal Shaan being relentless in front Srinath had to work extra to get the 4 year old to get the better close to the winning post.

Bandito (Phoenix Tower-Athymia) from the stables of Zareer Darashah won the Hiriyur Plate. The dark bay gelding which had found one better in three starts after winning on debut was sent off as the favourite at 11-10. Ace Princess was the first to show up on the home stretch after leading all the way from the start. Tusker started to challenge and Bandito racing fifth till the final bend was pulled out to make a bid from around horses. Jockey P.S.Chouhan used his riding skills to get Bandito into momentum and flashed in to spare three parts of a length over Ace Princess at the finish. Ice Skater and Tusker filled the judge's frame in a close finish.  

S.Rakesh trained Ultimate Princess (Royal Gladiator-Knowledgeable), the only 3 year old among the seven runners in the Kodlipet Plate made every post a winning one. Hitting the front quickly as the runners were dispatched Ultimate Princess led all the way and extended the lead to four lengths at the finish. Queens Colour, Sienna and Breezo filled the judge’s frame in that order. Take Off was withdrawn on veterinary grounds.

Trainer Md.Sajid Qureshi back to his duties after a long gap saddled a winner through 8 year old Cash is King (Serious Spender-Song of Freedom) in the Republican Plate.  Cash is King whose last win was a year ago, tracked the leaders Penalty Kick and Foxtrot at close proximity headed to the lead on top of the straight. The favourite Star Mountain which was in tow all the way started to throw a challenge but the strong handling of jockey A.Imran Khan enabled Cash is King to win by three parts of a length. Greenbro and Second Lady finished third and fourth respectively.

Time Matters (International-Claribel) from C.D.Monnappa’s stables, sporting blinkers for the first time snatched a win from Queen’s Cruise close to the winning post in the Red Rufus Plate. After a steady start Time Matters was held back towards the rear and improved gradually to be a close fourth rounding the final bend. Queen’s Cruise who was on a start to finish mission continued to kick on even as the favourite Beautiful Green and Time Matters started to come up strongly. The favourite faltered out in the last 100 metres and the Time Matters being persisted by apprentice A.Vishwanath collared Queen’s Cruise in the last stride. Beautiful Green was third two lengths away.   

Dinesh Pujar trained Catwalk Queen (Burden of Proof-Cats Affair) win-less from ten starts finally came well under A. Ashhad Asbar in the Kinski Plate. Erica and Go Man Go were in the lead with the top two market fancies Catwalk Queen and La Piperi rushing around them to head past as they came into the straight. The duo started to fight it out in a keen tussle and it was Catwalk Queen who prevailed  by 1 ¾ lengths at the finish.
