AIDAN O’BRIEN EARNS A FIRST RIBBLESDALE WITH BRACELET
By Racing Correspondent | 19 Jun 2014 |
Montjeu’s Bracelet a 10-1 chance returned to winning ways in the G2 Ribblesdale Stakes after her listless performance in the 1000 Guineas last month, thus endowing trainer Aidan O’Brien with a victory in the race that had eluded him so far. It was also the first win at the Royal Ascot 2014 for the accomplished trainer.
The filly was settled well in mi-field by Joseph O’Brien while stable companion Terrific set off on a good pace in front. Closing up as the neared the final turn, Bracelet moved swiftly to hit the front inside the last furlong and staved off the late challenge of Lustrous by half a length. Criteria was third a ‘head’ away.
Welcoming the change in Team Ballydoyle’s fortunes, trainer Aidan O'Brien said, “Obviously it's hard to know what has happened. They all seemed healthy before they got here but for no reason some of them have been running very ordinary races. We just have to be patient, but it's a bit of a relief really and we are delighted to get this one."
