RIZEENA BACK TO HER OWN IN THE CORONATION STAKES

Clive Brittain trained Rizeena was given a tactical ride by Ryan More to win the G1 Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot. The filly was a cropper in the 1000 Guineas at Newmarket after a huge success in the Queen Mary and Myglare last season. Her plans for the Irish 1000 Guineas also crashed after having bled during workout. Rizeena returned to Ascot to prove her prowess and that she did majestically.

There was drama at the start with Rosalind stumbling after jumping out and dislodging Kieren Fallon. As none of the rest eager to head to the front My Titania found herself in front and was there for the first 2 furlongs. J Wonder then took charge under Jimmy Fortune but the pace continued to be rather pedestrian. Rizeena was always held prominently towards the front and moved quickly to be in striking position turning for home. Ryan Moore rode out the 11-2 filly to hit the front inside the last 1 ½ furlongs and stayed in command successfully keeping at bay the challenge of Lesstalk In Paris. While three parts of a length separated the winner and the runner-up at the finish, Euro Charline ended up third a ‘head’ behind.

A joyous Brittain celebrating the victory said, "I wasn't worried about the pace. She's a lovely walker, so they could have walked and she would have won. She's a lovely trotter, they could have trotted and she would have won. But they galloped, and she's great at that too and won." Speaking about her next, he added, "We'll probably come back for the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes on Champion's Day."
