Trainer J Sharavanan leading Speartooth (B Mahesh Up), winner of The T.V.Reddy Memorial Trophy

Speartooth (Chatham Straight-Winning Talk) from the stables of J.Saravanan upset the applecart of Spinning Chakram in the T.V.Reddy Memorial Trophy, the main event of Wednesday’s races thus denying the favourite a hat-trick. The 4 year old gelding was quick at start, heading straight to the front to lead. Spinning Chakram settled well in second right from the beginning and the gap between them was about three lengths as the showed up on the straight. Spinning Chakram started to work her way towards the leader inside the last 300 metres and the lead began to diminish. Jockey B.Mahesh on Speartooth kept urging his mount and the gelding kicked on gamely to deny a win to Spinning Chakram by a ‘neck’ at the finish. Ultimate Princess beat the rest to be third.

The best performance of the day came from Michael Eshwer trained Duma (Phoenix Tower-Firecrest) in the Kanchanaganga Plate, a seven furlongs race for horses rated 80 and above. Duma raced towards the tail in the early part while Rio Grande led the pack followed by Crrisp, Bold Police and Castle King and that was more or less the order till approaching the final bend. Once into the home stretch Duma was pulled out for a bid from around Rio Grande and Bold Police, the duo in front and with jockey Y.S.Srinath just having to use his hands and heels the ‘Manjri’ bred and owned filly stretched out majestically to score an encore in a smart timing. Castle King rallied on to take the second place ahead of Bold Police and Crrisp.

S.Rakesh schooled Divine Love (Oath-Royal Haven) who had surprised everyone with a stunning win on debut at returns of over 200-1maintained that form to score an encore in the Sea Bisquit Plate but this time as the first favourite. After the initial shuffling for position, Divine Love settled behind the leader Vroom Vroom and Catchy Charger chasing in third. Inside the last 400 metres Divine Love moved forward to the front and Catchy Charger started to gain momentum. The two started to head towards the finish with the gap narrowing down with every stride inside the last 100 metres and Divine Love under Rayan Marshall held on by a slender ‘head’ at the wire. Society Music looked to be a threat in the last 300 metres but the filly went all over the turf and spoiled her chances.

Spiritual Blue (Sedgefield-Spiritual Hymn) from C.V.G.K.Kishore’s yard won the Manasasarovara Plate beating the favourite Touch of Romance by a length. There was spirited betting towards race time on Touch of Romance landing the grey filly as the favourite. Spiritual Blue improved its position all the way and positioning himself to be prominent as they rounded the final turn grabbed the lead on top of the straight. Jockey A Ashhad Asbar on Spiritual Blue had a look behind even before passing the distance post and kicked on to the finish. Touch of Romance hampered for a clear passage in the last 300 metres made a late bid from the outside to take the second position ahead of Triple Victory. Charm And Dream was withdrawn after she bolted and completed the course riderless.

C.Girinath trained Virtuoso (Local Talent-Allocate) was the biggest upset of the day in the Gundulpet Plate the concluding race of the day. The speedy Perfect Speed led till the last 300 metres from where Aerial Acrobat took over. Virtuoso in about fourth position at that time came tearing down with a determined effort and snatched the victory in the shadow of the winning post. Last outing winner Miss International finished third ahead of Perfect Speed.

A good touch by Bipin Salvi camp on Real Potential (Ajaad-Private Emotions) paid dividends in the Davanagere Plate, the opener of the day. I Love You set out on a start to finish bid followed closely by Flirting King and Real Potential. Inside the last furlong I Love You was holding on to the position in front and Flirting King was struggling to raise a gallop. Real Potential quickened through the inner ground and sped past to win. Archer came in late to finish second in front of I Love You. Flirting King was a tame fourth.

The only ‘double’ performance came from trainer J.Saravanan and jockey B.Mahesh combination. They had together succeeded through Sea Runner (Inhabitant-Haynes Park) in the Ashwajaya Plate. Tandav brushed up after a rather lethargic start to get to the front and was a clear three lengths ahead on entering the straight. Sea Runner came charging to bridge that lead and surged ahead to score by a length and a half.
