Trainer Bipin V Salvi leading Beyond Thankful (Anil Baandal Up), winner of The Bol Publication Trophy

Bipin V Salvi trained Beyond Thankful (Gaswar-Ladyfeelgood) made light of the 19 points penalty in rating for its earlier runaway victory while scoring an encore in the BOL Publication Trophy, the feature event of the day. The 4 year old gelding was settled nicely in mid-field while Lad King headed to lead the field early. As they approached the last 400 metres Demanding Format was the first to take the initiative. Beyond Thankful still in about fifth at that stage suddenly found the gap in front opening up and jockey Anil Baandal wasted no time in grabbing the opportunity. Picking up momentum quickly Beyond Thankful stretched out beautifully to wrest the issue. Demanding Format stayed on in second while its stable companion Scholar finished on third ahead of Sofast.

Trainer C.D.Monnappa scored a double through Murcilago and Miss International. Murcilago (Mathematician-Prefix) which had found one better in all its three starts was sent off as the favourite at 100-75 ‘on’ in the Golden Fantasy Plate. Ayahuasca was out in front on a start to finish bid with Murcilago settling easily in about fifth. Rounding the final bend Murcilago ranged alongside swiftly to take charge and won without any fuss. Ayahuasca finished on in second.

Miss International (International-Huricane Jane) scored its second win of the season in the higher division of the Sindhu Plate. Havenly Divas, a habitual slow starter was off to a good start this time and led the field till approaching the distance post. Best Move started to throw a challenge in the centre of the track and Miss International moved around them. The ‘Miss’ forged ahead with minimum effort from the saddle and Best Move followed to be second. Heavenly Divas finished third.

Jockey M.Rajesh Kumar was in the limelight booting home three winners. Two of them Beautiful Life and Go Man Go were from trainer Vikram Appachu’s yard. Beautiful Life (Flitch-Life is Beautiful) whose last win was almost 33 months ago won the opener like a champion. Racing in touch with the leaders along the inner fence Beautiful Life headed to the front near the 600 metres pole and stretched out easily. Prost was the closest three lengths behind while Indian Hero finished third over six lengths behind.

Go Man Go (Danehill Star-Game On) who had finished an eye-catching third in its previous start was completely neglected in the betting in the Narmada Plate. The favourite Castlebar led the field from the start and brought the field into view on the home stretch. La Piperi quickly grabbed the lead passing the 400 metres board and was looking good when Go Man Go despite drifting alarmingly wide covered ground with every stride and collared La Piperi on the last stride.

Rajesh’s other win was through P.C.Tejaswi trained Guapo (Senure-Athymia) in thelower division of the Sindhu Plate. Coming out from the outermost draw Guapo settled well in mid-field early while Herculean went to the front. Improving gradually entering the straight Guapo came up with a strong gallop to get to the front in the middle of the track and held off the late challenge of Aerial Acrobat. Real Potential finished on being third.

Vishal Yadav trained Born to Race (Emerald Cat-Secret Charm) was a stunning upset in the concluding race bringing down the jackpot hunters from 45 in the penultimate leg to just one lucky ticket. Racing in about seventh position on top of the straight Born to Rave maneuvered its way through the horses in front to grab the lead and hold on from the fast finishing Precept at the finish. Secret Plan finished a close third ahead of Time Flies.
