The bookmakers had a forgettable day which however they may not forget in a hurry! Followers of favourites would have reaped in a bonanza as all eight races of the day were won by well-backed favourites. For a change, it was the punters who went laughing all the way back to the banks.

Trainer S.A.Shehzad Abbas and jockey P.S.Chouhan were the only professionals to score a double each.

Laxman Singh trained Vijays Conquer (Placerville-Queen to Conquer) had to be hard ridden by P.S.Chouhan to win the Steward’s Cup, a 1200 metres sprint for 3 years old and upward horses in category I. Vijays Conquer jumped out smartly from the outermost draw and headed to lead the field, getting to gallop along the inner fence within the first 100 metres. Street Magic and Dusty Lady were in chase close behind while last outing winner Brahmani stayed last till rounding the final bend. Into the last 300 metres Vijays Conquer was still in the lead and was looking good when Brahmani began to cover ground from around the field rapidly. Chouhan went for the stick to keep his mount going even as Brahmani closed up and just managed to get to the winning post a quarter of a length in front. Sweet Candy finished third another 1 ½ lengths away, beating the top weighted Kohinoor Wish into fourth.

Trainer S.A.Shehzad Abbas won the Noble Quest Cup, a seven furlongs race for maiden 3 year old horses with Right Dimension and pulled off a double in the very next race through Cornwallis. Right Dimension (Multidimentional-Flowers of the Forest) who was taken to Bangalore for summering was brilliant while overwhelming his opponents. Settled easily in about fifth position, not far away from the leader till approaching the last 300 metres, Right Dimension gained ground with the rider A.Imran Khan not having to apply pressure and sped past effortlessly to spare five lengths at the finish. Kohinoor Grace and Vista fought out till the finish for the runner-up berth and finished in that order behind the winner.

Cornwallis (Burden of Proof-Polenta), winner of its only start in Bangalore this summer was sent off as money back favourite in the P.M.Bokdawala Memorial Cup. Assigned to apprentice Akshay Kumar to guide the youngster’s fortunes, Cornwallis got to the front at start and leading all the way into the final straight, drew away from the rest to score an encore by a distance despite veering out of the straight course inside the last 100 metres. Golden Arrow and Emerald were in second and third respectively all through the straight.

K.Satheesh trained Bouncer (Ontario-Priceless Princess) justified the favouritism with a pillar to post victory in the Turf Club Cup. The 3 year old chestnut colt was taken to the front by apprentice N.S.Rathore as the gates opened and kicked on gamely inside the last two furlongs maintaining a lead of over two lengths all the way. Symbol of Glory warmed up late to beat Rock Heights for the second place.

Shamrock Lady (Ace-Sure Future) from the stables of L.V.R.Deshmukh whose only loss from five starts was in the Fillies’ Championship Stakes last year at Bangalore proved to be a classy sprinter yet again while winning the higher division of the Pleasure Hunt Plate. This was the first win of the day for jockey P.S.Chouhan who later completed a double in the main event. On a start to finish mission, Shamrock Lady was challenged by Jack Sparrow in the last 150 metres but Chouhan gave a couple of taps to the ‘Lady’ and she responded like a seasoned campaigner to keep going. Fair And Square and Maharadhi finished third and fourth respectively.

L.D’Silva trained Beau Ideal (Don Michelleto-Shades of Beauty) who had advertised her fitness while finishing second to Decathlon 10 days ago was sent off as the favourite in the lower division. Racing a close fourth till the top of the straight Beau Ideal moved strongly between the leaders Shatakshi and Twinklingofaneye and surged clear. Twinklingofaneye finished second ahead of Deal Maker.

R.H.Sequeira trained Yksi Yksi Yksi (Opportunist-Romance in Rain) provided an arm chair victory to Madhu Babu in the Sardar Patel Plate. Grabbing the lead from draw one as the gates opened Yksi Yksi Yksi came in well clear of the rest on the home stretch and kept going with the rider repeatedly looking back. Crimson Look, Vijays Grandeour and True Scholar filled the frame in that order.

Trainer D.Netto led in his 4 year old filly Princess Cruise (Epicentre-Tiana) in the Kalamaris Plate. Mount Titlis and Citi Supreme were disputing the lead as they came into the last 400 metres and Princess Cruise was tracking them close behind. The three were all out in the last furlong and with Kuldeep Singh pushing Princess Cruise hard, the filly surged past between them to win by 1 ½ lengths. Citi Supreme took the second spot in front of Mount Titlis.
