GALIAT WINS THE FEATURE EVENT

Donald Netto trained Galiat (Mull of Kintyre-Brazilia) who had finished in the frame in all its 10 starts won the Nawab Khaja Moinuddin Khan Memorial Cup, to take his winning tally to five. Five horses faced the starter for the seven furlongs trip for horses in category II. Audacious set the pace, followed by Santa Monica, Power Drive, Galiat and Power Drive. On entering the home stretch Power Drive surged quickly to take the lead and stable companion Galiat improved to get to striking position. Approaching the distance post Galiat took charge responding to Imran Khan’s urgings and the rider had the luxury of having a look behind before easing up. Power Drive stayed on well in second to give the trainer a one-two and Santa Monica ended up third.

Anupam Sharma trained Qinghuangdao (Epecentre-Moon Beam ) whose last win was about 2 ½ years ago sprang a surprice to win the Army Cup. Racing a handy third behind Price Warrior and Jaden Gil, Qinghuangdao forced its way in-between and rushed to take charge on the top of the straight. The favourite Dark Avenger also moved strongly from the outside but found the winner kicking on under Deepak Singh and settled for the runner-up berth. Laurel Canyon and Sweety Girl finished third and fourth respectively.

Ivanova (Equitable-Glare) from the stables of Laxman Singh scored an encore in the Blue Max Cup. The filly sent out as a short priced favourite raced on the haunches of Golden Essence till the last 400 metres and stretched out effortlessly when asked for an effort by jockey A.M.Tograllu. Golden Star Player and Scholar Gypsy filled the frame in that order.

Laxman Singh scored a double with Dance To Destiny (Ikhtyar-Maya) in the Starsky Plate. The 3 year old filly has had a flying start to her career having won all her three starts. Dance To Destiny took a good start under apprentice S.S.Tanwar and headed to lead the field. The filly travelled with ease all the way and won by a clear four lengths. Bouncer in chase from the start just held on to the second place from a late finishing Flying Dutchman.

Kohinoor Grace (Eljohar-Lady Counsel) from the stables of Ananth Vatsalya sported a pair of wings en-route to shedding her maiden ranks in the Diablo Plate. Rubyonrails had taken charge inside the last furlong and was looking good when Kohinoor Grace who came into the home stretch in about seventh position was pulled out to make her bid and along with Rebellion started to gain ground at a rapid pace. Anant’s filly literarily flew in in the last 30 metres to wrap it up by a length from Rebellion. Rubyonrails finished third another 1 ¾ lengths away.  

S.A.Shehzad Abbas trained Spirited (Don Micheletto-Blue Spirit), a maiden after 13 starts came good to win the lower division of the Ongole Plate by a lengthening margin of 5 ½ lengths. The filly set off in front after a speedy start with Desert Bloom racing a close second. Inside the last furlong Spirited galloped freely to extend the lead and won easily. Roma Rouge, Fenway Court and Take Stock filled the frame in that order. Baba’s Gift and Jamie were non-starters in the race.
