Trainer S Ganapathy leading Bold Majesty (Neeraj Rawal Up), winner of The Deccan Bookmakers Colts Championship Stakes (Gr.3)

Bold Majesty (Multidimensional-Fond Fantasy / Usha Stud) sporting the silks of Dr.M.A.M.Ramaswamy was ridden with great aplomb by Neeraj Rawal to storm home in the Colts Championship Stakes – Grade III, at Hyderabad. The bay gelding bred at Usha Stud is trained by S.Ganapathy.

Bold Majesty who had finished second to Godspeed – winner of the Fillies’ here- in the Bangalore Summer Million was sent off as the favourite at 5-2 against his eight opponents while the local challenger Silver Phantom was second in demand at 7-2. Bold Majesty was held back towards the rear in second last position while Veloz took the initiative at start and headed to lead the field.

Passing the half way mark Veloz continued to call the shots followed by Your Royal Majesty, Silver Phantom, Spreadeagle, Carlton, Movie Moghual, Vijay Viraaj, Bold Majesty and Torch Bearer in that order. Into the last 300 metres Your Royal Majesty moved forward first but was soon passed by Silver Phantom who slipped in along the fence. Jockey Neeraj Rawal in the meanwhile had started to ride out Bold Majesty and the son of Multidimensional came down the stretch with a resolute gallop to down Silver Phantom by a length. Your Royal Majesty was third another length and three quarters behind with Carlton taking the fourth spot.

L.D’Silva trained Palm Springs (Placerville-Shalaya / Poona Stud) sprang a surprise in the Asaf Jah VII Memorial Cup. Decathlon who was bidding for a hat-trick was installed as on money favourite while Palm Springs was quoted at 5-1. The 4 year old filly with apprentice Akshay Kumar astride shot off to the front to lead as the gates opened. Into the home stretch Palm Springs was still traveling well in front with Decathlon hard at work to bridge the gap. Decathlon had to settle for the runner-up berth as Palm Springs kicked on to win by 3 ½ lengths.  Brahmani and Sweet Candy finished third and fourth respectively.

Kunigal Stud bred Cornwallis (Burden of Proof-Polenta) from the stables of S.A.Shehzad Abbas completed a hat-trick in the Heritage Cup. The 3 year old had won over 1200 metres at Bangalore this summer and then decimated the opposition in a seven furlongs race four weeks ago. Pitched over a mile for the first time, Cornwallis was the overwhelming favourite at half money. Kohinoor Thunder set off in front followed closely by Cornwallis in the initial part of the race. Noble Citizen rallied well to be in second within the first two furlongs. As they rounded the final turn Jockey Trevor Patel guided Cornwallis through the narrow gap along the rails and the youngster picked up speed instantly to take charge and extend the lead. Sensei started to gallop late, bridging the gap quickly but Cornwallis had safely passed the winning post by three parts of a length. Kohinoor Thunder and Winds And Waves finished third and fourth respectively.

D.Netto trained Jerrell (Don Micheletto-Shades of Beauty) was given a confident ride by A.Imran Khan to lift the Dynamic Dancer Plate. Graceland came up strongly approaching the distance post to get alongside the leaders Big Boss and Khalis Gold and surged ahead to take over the running. Jerrel got stronger with Imran Khan but suddenly found Graceland beginning to move out of the straight course. Imran kept his cool and took his mount from the inside and the gelding responded brilliantly to flash past and spare a length and a half at the finish. Field Smasher and Big Boss filled the judge’d frame in that order.

K.Satheesh trained Happy Guy (Slicky-Ladyfish) had four fillies as opponents in the Fire Haven Plate, a nine furlongs race for 3 year old maiden horses. The youngster was sent off as the favourite at 12-10 after finding one better in his previous two starts. Vijay Sakhi set the pace early, going ahead by over five lengths, followed by Vista, Crown Royal Happy Guy and Kohinoor Charm. Entering the home stretch Vista was quick to head to the front but Happy Guy improved with a fluent run from behind and surged past Vista to win comfortably. Crown Royal finished on being third.

Flames of Forest (Mudeer-Ganga Devine) did not find it difficult to win the Classic Story Plate. The Laxman Singh trainee was taken to the front from the innermost draw at start by jockey A.M.Tograllu and then went on to make every pole a winning one. Staminoizd was in hot chase all through the 1100 metres but found the filly in front too hot to catch and finished second. True Haven covered plenty of ground from the rear to finish a close third. Goldie filled the judge’s frame.

Anupam Sharma trained Roma Royal (Oath-Think of us) who had failed as a favourite in its last start bounced back to winning ways in the Classic Style Cup. Smartest out from draw one, Roma Royal showed plenty of speed to hit the front. Inside the last 400 metres Roma Royal kicked on gamely even as Romantic Fire and Olympus were up with a challenge. Red Express rallied late to beat Romantic Fire for the second place in the last stride.

Faiyaz Shaikh trained Bold Reason (Mr.Mellon-Reminicent) had enough reasons to celebrate. The 5 year old who had not won a race in 31 starts finally came good to win the Red Rufus Plate. Bold Reason raced towards the rear in about twelfth position early, galloping about five wide all the way till the top of the straight. Inside the last 300 metres Classic Emerald and Sarvagnya fought out for the lead and the latter surged forward. Bold Reason in the meanwhile got closer from the outside and flashed past to score his maiden win.  Sarvagnya and Classic Emerald finished second and fourth respectively while the favourite Moghul Emperor ended up fourth.
