Trainer Aravind Ganapathy leading Light Of Success (Trevor Patel Up), winner of The H.H.Sri Chamaraja Wadiyar Memorial Trophy

Trainer Aravind Ganapathy tasted his first triumph when Light of Success (Acclamation-Lindoras Glory / Poona Stud) won the H.H.Sri Chamaraja Wadiyar Memorial Trophy, a six furlongs sprint for horses rated 80 and above, the main event of the nine races card at Mysore. The 4 year old filly, property of Dr.M.A.M.Ramaswamy shot to the front from draw one and made every post a winning one, in a smart timing which was a fraction of a second more than the course record. The favourite Whispering Gallery in chase of the leader right from the start was ridden out on the home stretch but Trevor kept Light of Success going confidently to win by a length. Virat finished third another 2 3/4 lengths away.

Warren Singh schooled Speed Hawk (Mathematecian-Spark of Elegance) pulled it off in the Police Trophy, a seven furlongs race for maiden 3 year old horses. Speedy at start Speed Hawk was taken to the front by Y.S.Srinath to lead the field. Charm And Dream and Albatross raced close behind till the top of the straight. Inside the last 400 metres Speed Hawk picked up momentum and started to build up a lead even as Charm And Dream and Albatross were being pressed hard. Speed Hawk extended the lead to three lengths at the finish while Albatross, Charm And Dream and the favourite Flame of Passion finishing on late, filled the judge’s frame in that order in a close finish.

Mumbai import Secret Hunter (Bertolini-Ash Moon / Sohna Stud) who had finished a suggestive second in his only start on this course during summer, literally decimated the opposition in the higher division of the M.W.Chinnappa Memorial Cup. A lot of money came on Secret Hunter nearing race time, ending up as the firm favourite at 5-4.  Shooting off to the lead as the gates opened Secret Hunter led all the way into the home stretch and extended the margin to 8 ¼ lengths at the finish. A dazed Veyron had to be contended with the second place. Whistlejacket was third another length and a quarter behind. Hillsboro was a non-starter in the race.

Abstract Art (Mr.Mellon-Ciel Fleuri / Kunigal Stud) – Ex Cielo Signore- from the stables of Prasanna Kumar who was running after a gap of nearly 3 1/2 months galloped well to win the lower division. Taking the start from an outward draw Abstract Art headed towards the fence to track the leader Game Dancer. Once into the straight Abstract Art surged forward to take charge and with jockey T.S.Jodha riding out stayed well till the finish. Sherlock Holmes tried to catch the winner but fell short by a length and a half. Starstruck rallied well along the inner rails to finish a close third. Mountain Beauty was a non-starter in the race.

Jockey P.Trevor had earlier in the day piloted S.S.Attaollahi trained Passing Fulcrum (Win Legend-Western Whisper) to victory in the Fair Wood Plate. Passing Fulcrum carrying the top weight was sent off as the second favourite at 5-2 while Nanuk enjoyed the favouritism at 100-95. After a good jump from the gates he settled well in about fifth or sixth as Arun set off on a start to finish bid. Rounding the final bend Jockey P.Trevor who had waited all the way along the fence with Passing Fulcrum saw the gap widening, went for it and the youngster responded readily to take charge on top of the straight to complete an encore. While Passing Fulcrum won undisputed, Arun did well to take the runner-up berth. Gayle’s Storm warmed up late to finish in the money, ahead of Fortaleza.

K.Somashekar trained Born For Passion (Oath-Edelwwiss / Pratap Stud), a winner just a week ago scored an encore with a pillar to post win in the Eclipse Plate. Speedy at start, the 4 year old filly hit the front quickly and kept kicking on in the straight with jockey S.John just giving one tap to keep up the momentum. Coffee Time who enjoyed the favouritism was hard at work right through the final straight but failed to collar the winner. Afternoon Delight finished third about five lengths away from the runner-up.

Dinesh Pujar trained Brigade’s Paradise (Royal Gladiator-Devil’s Been Busy / Pratap Stud) who had missed out to Flirting King in its last start by a ‘nose’, made amends to win the Panchgani Plate, the opener of the day. The Alchemist set of on a start to finish bid, holding forte till the last 300 metres. Shades of Scarlet who had improved from the inside joined up along with Rosie’s Dream from the outside. The three were abreast approaching the distance marker when Brigade’s Paradise who was looking for an opening just behind forced his way to surge ahead and head to the winning post. Rosie’s Dream finished second with Tandav coming in late to take the third spot in front of The Alchemist. Summerville was withdrawn on veterinary grounds before the race.

The two divisions of the Siddapur Plate were run as ‘no whip’ races. V.Narayana Gowda trained Thunder Gaswar-Elucidate) upset the applecart of the favourite Shoot Out who was backed to the exclusion of the other runners in the lower division. Shoot Out was well on track taking over the running from Supreme Strength on entering the last 400 metres. Thunder started to gain ground from the outside and sped past Shoot Out with the riders just having to use their hands and heels as whips were not allowed in the race. The First Bullet who raced towards the rear for a long time came up late to finish a close third.

Amit Cady’s President’s Rule (Glory of Dancer-Wow The Critics / Nanoli Stud) won the higher division from start to finish. President’s Rule went to the front followed closely by Volans. As they came in for the last 400 metres apprentice A.Ramu started to urge President’s Rule and the 5 year old gelding quickened to move away from the rest. Right on Time who had missed the start by almost five lengths raced last till the top of the straight and improving positions quickly and with a late dash closed up the leeway that President’s Rule had established but fell short by three parts of a length at the wire. Spanish Fly and Neron finished third and fourth respectively.
