Trainer Karthik Ganapathy leading The Myth (Neeraj Rawal Up), winner of The Mysore 1000 Guineas (Gr.3)

The Myth (Dancing Forever-Iles Piece / Hazara Stud) gave Dr.M.A.M.Ramaswamy his 584th classic success while storming home in the Mysore 1000 Guineas – Grade III on Thursday. It was a moment to cherish for trainer Karthik Ganapathy who was saddling his first runner at Mysore in his career. For Jockey Neeraj Rawal it was his third classic triumph in a span of eleven days, having won the Colts’ at Hyderabad and Kolkata earlier this month.

The Myth had won a 2000 metres trip at Pune in a run-away fashion before coming down to Mysore for the Guineas. When asked on the decision to bring the filly for the race, trainer Karthik said,” She won impressively in Pune and since she was already entered for this race I asked Boss (Dr.M.A.M.Ramaswamy) if I could take her to Mysore. He was also of the opinion that she would do well on this track and readily agreed to the proposal”. On the filly running in the Derby here, Karthik added,” right now she will head back to Pune. We will sit down and chalk out her future course. If she has to run in the Derby here then it has to be a final entry as the filly is not entered for the race”.

The Myth raced towards the rear in second last position early with Fatal Attraction the one behind, while Obelinna Princess called the shots. Rounding the final bend Precious Replica surged ahead to take over the running. Fatal Attraction moved around the field to make her bid and The Myth also improved quickly between horses to stake her claim. Approaching the last furlong Fatal Attraction went to the lead but started to drift out of the straight course alarmingly. Neeraj Rawal sized the opportunity and started to ride out The Myth along the inner path while Smoking Bell and Pure Allure in chase but not enough to turn the tables. Fatal Attraction continued to veer out and entered the sand track in the dying stages which indeed turned out to be ‘Fatal’ for her chances to clinch the race. The angle at the winning post in Mysore is very deceptive especially when the horses are wide apart and The Myth had won it ‘surprisingly’ by 1 1/4 lengths. Smoking Bell had also pipped Fatal Attraction for the runner-up berth while Pure Allure finished third another neck behind.

There was a dead-heat for the first place in the Civil Services Trophy between B.Puttanna trained Sweet Secret (Duja-Gold N’Honey / Pratap Stud) and S.Narredu trained Wind Wonder (Noverre-Scarborough / Poonawalla Stud). Sweet Secret tracked the leader Absolute Pleasure till the distance post and forged ahead. Sweet Secret was looking good with 100 metres left from home and then came Wind Wonder came up with a resolute gallop bridging the gap and the two went past the winning post locked together. The judge was not able to separate the two in the photo despite the digital camera having the facility to give verdict upto one thousandth of a second and declared a dead-heat. Emperor Cruise who had gone in as the favourite was withdrawn after he reared up inside the gates.

S.Narredu trained Wind And Flight (Mr.Mellon-Go Go Go / Equus Stud) was given a confident and cool headed ride by Suraj Narredu to win the A.C.Sommanna Memorial Trophy. Racing in third behind Jolie and Ungoogleable, Wind And Flight started to move up from around them. Ungoogleable began to run erratic and disturbed the progress of Suraj’s mount. Suraj managed to come out of the situation and rode out and the 5 year old responded readily to flash past and win. Cool Baby, Champakali and Ungoogleable filled the judge’s frame in that order in a close finish.

Conrod (Tejano-Celestrella / Kunigal Stud) from the stables of Azar Ali scored a comprehensive win in the lower division. Moving ahead to hit the front as the field sorted themselves within the first furlong, Conrod travelled easy under Arshad Alam to win unperturbed by the rest. Sweet N Smart who was lethargic at start beat the rest to be the runner-up while the favourite came under pressure when asked to quicken and veered out inside the last 200 metres to finally finish third.

Neil Darashah trained Quarter Cask (Home Affairs –Claribel) still a maiden from eight starts won the lower division of the Penambur Plate by a lengthening margin. Jumping out smartly from draw nine, Quarter Cask headed straight to the front to lead the field. Inside the last 400 metres the 4 year old filly under Arshad Alam extended the leeway to be 6 ¼ lengths ahead at the finish. Attractor chased the winner all through the last 300 metres to be second while Our Commander rallied on to take the third spot.

The higher division was won by another maiden Summer Sensation (Glory of Dancer-Felicitad / Nanoli Stud) from trainer Amit Cady’s yard. Winless from fifteen starts, Summer Sensation raced in about eighth or ninth initially as there was a rush in front. Rounding the final bend Summer Sensation was gradually pulled out to make a bid. Approaching the last furlong Fortunate One made a strong bid to challenge the leader Queen’s Cruise and just then Summer Sensation flew in from the outside to wrap it off. Fortunate One was second half a length away while Queen’s Cruise held on to the third place from Ruling Passions.

Santosh Rao trained Peppr (Sharp Attack-Working Progress / Gee Stud) who had last won nine months ago came good to win the Shimsha Plate. Racing a handy third behind Wfinished elcome Again and Rosie’s Dream till the final bend Peppr slipped in along the rails to take charge on top of the straight and held off the late challenge of Rosie’s Dream. Asrerix and Magnetic Power finished third and fourth respectively, in a close finish.

C.D.Monnappa trained Murcilago (Mathematecian-Prefix) sent off as the hot favourite in the Haveri Plate at 7-10, justified the cramped odds with a thumping victory. The youngster looked very keen as the took off from the gates but jockey S.John rode him in check to sit behind the leaders Delta Delight and Supreme Strength. Rounding the bend before the last 400 metres, Murcilago headed to the lead from the shortest way and won unchallenged. Catwalk Queen rallied on to finish second in front of Delta Delight and First Light.

All Proof (Burden of Proof-Allez Indi / Kunigal Stud) pulled it off in the Hyderabad Plate. All Proof was held back to run second last and was still there as the field approached the final bend. Rounding the bend Gayle’s Storm made rapid progress around the field, almost six wide and headed to lead. All Proof got a wide opening along the fence and taking that readily slipped in to challenge Gayles’s Storm inside the last 100 metres and wrap it off. Nation’s Glory warmed up late to finish third.
