Trainer L D Silva leading Beau Ideal (Akshay Kumar Up), winner of The Police Cup Div-I

L.D’Silva trained Beau Ideal (Don Micheletto-Shades of Beauty) won the division I of the Police Cup, a 1000 metres dash for horses in the highest Category. Beau Ideal shot off to the lead from the innermost draw under the in-form apprentice Akshay Kumar followed closely by MEG and Secret Angel. From the 400 metres board onwards Meg started to challenge strongly but lost steam in the last furlong and Beau Ideal kicked on to win comfortably. The favourite Odalis almost last nearing the distance post moved in late along the fence to finish second ahead of MEG.

In the lower division S.S.Faisal Hassan’s Silver Crown (Placerville-Silver Academy) was lucky to win the race after losing out on the track, following a steward’s enquiry which ended in the original winner Tejaswini being disqualified. As the field of nine was dispatched for the 1000 metres dash, the favourite Tejaswini moved in sharply crowding the runners along the inside which resulted in the rider of Make Your Day being dislodged. Tejaswini led the field all the way and Silver Crown who was in chase from the beginning fought out in the last 200 metres but failed by a ‘head’ at the finish. The stewards ordered an enquiry into the dangerous riding of jockey A.M.Tograllu and finding him guilty of the offence disqualified the winner. Silver Crown was elevated to the first place while Proof, Hidden Power and Dusty Lady filled the frame in that order.

Shamsuddin trained Baashagar (Kingda Ka-Le Reve) decimated the opposition to score an encore in the Faridoon S.Chenoy Memorial Cup. Racing a handy fourth behind Natalia, Ice Barrier and Super Falcon, Baashadar moved fluently around them as they took the final bend and was in the lead on entering the straight. The youngster led by about two lengths till the last 200 metres and then stretched out effortlessly under Kuldeep Singh to extend the lead to eight lengths at the finish. San Ramon improved from the last position to take the second spot.

Rebellion (Dancing Forever-Offshore Anna) earned a much needed win to its trainer K.S.V.Prasad Raju in the higher division of the Malvado Plate, an 1100 metres scurry for maiden 3 year old horses. Symbol of Choice was in front right from the start and kept kicking on even as Rebellion began to challenge inside the last 200 metres. Jockey P.Sai Kumar kept riding out Rebellion and the gelding picked up momentum inside the last 50 metres to surge forward by half a length.

A small field of four runners faced the starter for the 2200 metres Nizam Sagar Cup. Ananth Vatsalya trained Kohinoor Punch (Epicentre-Evening Bride) and Laxman Singh’s Vijays Splendour almost shared the favouritism. Kohinoor Punch was settled well off the pace to run last of four runners while Time For Smile called the shots followed by Vijays Splendour and Spanish Conquest. They raced in a single file in the same order till approaching the last 600 metres. On entering the home stretch Vijays Splendour surged forward to take charge but that was only momentary as Kohinoor Punch rallied around the front runners with a fluent gallop and stretched out effortlessly. Time For Smile finished third in front of Spanish Conquest.

The two divisions of the Astana Plate were won by well backed favourites. Anupam Sharma trained Golden Arrow (Epicentre-Cornelia) won the higher division while Laxman Singh’s Ray of Light (Ace-Radiate) annexed the lower division.  Golden Arrow had to be ridden out by A.Imran Khan to get the better of Shimmering Eyes in the shadow of the winning post. Inside the last 250 metres Shimmering Eyes got a clear run from the outside and Golden Arrow maneuvered her way through horses from the inside. The two came away from the rest and fought out till the end with the stronger riding of Imran Khan prevailing in the end.

Ray of Light had it much easier in the lower division winning by an extended margin. In the lead right from the word ‘go’ Ray of Light galloped easily to draw away from the rest on the final straight. Drum Beat, Ein Ein Ein and Grigori filled the frame in that order.

Ponte Verdi (Epicentre-Crystal Beauty) justified the favouritism in the Madanna Plate, the concluding race of the day to give its trainer L.D’Silva a double for the day. The 6 year old gelding disputed the lead with True Scholar till the top of the straight and then went clear under apprentice S.S.Tanwar. Khalis Gold rallied on to finish second while Care Less Love and Golden Adagio finished third and fourth respectively.
