RUN-AWAY WIN FOR BELLE GALLANTEY IN THE BELDAME
By Racing Correspondent | 29 Sep 2014 |
After Market’s 5 year old mare Belle Gallantey went on a pillar to post trip in the G1 Beldame Stakes and wrapped it up by a lengthening margin of 8 ¼ lengths. Setting off easily in front at start, Belle Gallantey had established a lead of nearly five lengths over the favourite Stopchargingmaria as they headed past the halfway stage. Stopchargingmaria was up with a brief challenge but Belle Gallantey stretched out effortlessly to lengthen its stride and run-away from the rest. Stopcharginmaria finished second with Endless Chatter taking the third spot.
"It's very, very special," said trainer Rodriguez who was scoring his second straight graded win after Vyjack. "We're working very hard with these kinds of horses, and thank God they did it. I don't know what to tell you. I'm speechless."
“She’s improved a lot since Rudy has had her,” said winning jockey Jose Ortiz. “He has to get all the credit, and I’m glad I’ve had the opportunity to ride her. I just put my hands down and was a passenger. As soon as I went to the lead, she relaxed really well. Rudy told me she was 100%, and I always trust him. When we went to the quarter pole I had a lot of horse, so I knew I had it.”
