Trainer Laxman Singh leading Black Bolt (Deep Shanker Up), winner of The Major General Nawab Khusru Jung Bahadur Memorial Cup

Laxman Singh trained Black Bolt (Ivory Touch-Negress Doll) who had won four races on the trot early this year bounced back to slam the opposition in the Major General Nawab Khusru Jung Bahadur Memorial Cup, a 1400 metres race for horses in Category I, that featured the seven races card at Hyderabad. The 4 year old sent off at 5-1 raced in fifth position among the seven horses till entering the final bend. Into the last 400 metres Black Bolt who was pulled out to make a bid from the outside started to close up with the front runners being led by Qinghuangdao. With a furlong left Black Bolt raised a strong gallop with the jockey Deep Shanker riding him out and trounced them all. Brahmani who had raced in the rear till the top of the straight moved well to take the second place ahead of Secret Angel.

Trainer L.D’Silva kept his tally ticking with a double through Camborne and Montauk. Camborne (Equitable-Ferrari) justified the favouritism in the S.N.Reddy Memorial Cup. A mishap within the first 100 metres of the race brought Kunal Bunde, the rider of Ein Ein Ein down on the ground. Roma Royal moved in sharply after jumping out from draw 5 and crowded the field. Ein Ein Ein who was just beside Roma Royal was hemmed up badly and the rider lost his balance and was dislodged. Roma Royal then headed to the front after disputing the lead with Bold Attack. Camborne moved between horses with 150 metres left from home and when the race was looking to be going Roma Royal’s way, Camborne came up with a terrific turn of foot to forge ahead and spare 1 ¼ lengths. Dandelion finished on being third. Following a Steward’s enquiry Roma Royal was disqualified and those who had finished behind her moved up by one place.

Montauk (Multidimensional-Amorina) who had just one win against his name from 24 starts despite finishing on board in 18 others came good to lift the lower division of the Jatprole Cup under apprentice C.S.Vikrant. Rushing to the front from draw one Montauk set off on a start to finish mission and kicked on gamely when challenged by Rio Rojo and Symbol of Victory inside the last furlong. Rio Rojo who was the overwhelming favourite finished second ahead of Symbol of Victory.

Trainer Ananta Vatsalya also pulled off a back-to-back double through Kohinoor Karishma and Golden Storm in the last two races of the day and apprentice C.S.Vikrant was astride the second named thereby completing a double for himself. Golden Storm (Roi Maudit-Yorkshire) shed its maiden status in its eleventh start in the Raja Saheb of Challapalli Memorial Cup. Ek Ek Ek and Dad’s Dollar were fighting it out as they came into the last 300 metres. Rebellion was beginning to make way between the two and Golden Storm had a clearer path from the wider outside. Golden Storm traveled the better to go clear by three lengths ahead of Rebellion at the finish. The rider of Ek Ek Ek lost his concentration momentarily when he glanced at Rebellion and went over the false rails. He managed to hang on despite losing his balance but faded out to finish last. Amazing Power who was racing close behind shied away suddenly and dislodged the rider.

Kohinoor Karishma (Win Legend-Money With Talent) earned her maiden win in the Nawab Sultan Ali Khan Memorial Cup. The 20-1 shot improved gradually from the outermost draw to be a close third behind Nano Class and Goldie as they approached the last 600 metres. In a keen tussle with Goldie in the last one furlong Kohinoor Karishma surged ahead to spare three parts of a length at the finish. The favourite Rubyonrails hopelessly placed in the rear till the top of the straight came flying down only to end up a close third.

D.Netto trained Winds And Waves (Sussex-Venice) won the higher division of the Jatprole Plate. Traveling easily behind Price Warrior and Noble Citizen till the top of the straight Winds And Waves stormed ahead under A.Imran Khan and stayed well to win by two lengths. Kohinoor Punch warmed up late to take the second place from Noble Citizen.

The even money favourite Exclusive Lady (Gaswar-Share The Spirit) from the stables of S.S.Faisal Hassan made it almost a start to finish affair in the opener of the day, the P.V.G.Raju Memorial Cup. Silver Arnage was in chase all through the last two furlongs but found the winner too hard to catch and settled for the second place. Big Mac ran on to be third in front of Khalis Gold.
