Trainer Laxman Singh leading Vijays Conquer (Deep Shanker Up), winner of The Mysore Race Club Cup

Laxman Singh trained Vijay’s Conquer (Placerville-Queen to Conquer / Poonawalla Stud) made ever post a winning one in the Mysore Race Club Cup, a seven furlongs race for horses in the highest category. Racing Ahead was the race favourite but if the betting trends were any indication of the outcome then the writing was on the wall. The price on Racing Ahead drifted out from a short quote of 10-6 ‘on’ to close at 17-10. Vijays Conquer set off in front followed by Odalis, Racing Ahead, Brahmani and Twentyfivepips. Inside the last furlong Vijays Conquer continued to kick on under Deep Shanker and held on to wrap it up by half a length from Racing Ahead. Odalis finished third in front of Brahmani.

The consistent Policy Maker (Home Affairs-Admiration / Mebojeona Stud) who had completed a hat-trick during winter and found one better in its two starts this season bounced back to winning ways in the R.J.K.Ranga Rao, Zamindar of Chikkavaram Memorial Cup to give its trainer Laxman Singh a double. Getting a flyer from draw one Policy Maker hugged the fence all the way and stretched clear towards the finish. Symbol of Victory and True Friend were in futile chase all through the straight and finished in that order behind the winner.

The most impressive winner of the day was M.Sathyanaranaya trained Wolverton (Ace-Astreus) in the Camino Cup. Wolverton, the oldest among the eight horses in the field at 5 years, with all the others at 3 years was still a maiden going into the race. Wolverton stuck to the rear in the first two furlongs of the mile trip and beginning to improve gradually around the field, was a handy third behind Rocky Hill and Regal Monarchy as they approached the final turn. Inside the last 400 metres Wolverton forged ahead with utmost ease and extended the margin to be seven lengths at the finish. Upon A Star and Star Player finished second and third respectively with a ‘short-head’ separating them.

Jockey A.Imran Khan partnered K.S.V.Prasad Raju trained Rebellion (Dancing Forever-Offshore Anna) to a convincing victory in the Prince Regent Plate, the first race of the day. The youngster who had found one better in its previous two starts bounced back to winning ways. Racing a handy fourth till entering the straight, Rebellion charged ahead of the leader Nano Dame and drew clear. Nano Dame held on to the second place from Blue Seduction and Silver Passion.

Happy Guy (Slicky-Ladyfish) from the stables of K.Satheesh who is in rousing form extended his winning streak to complete a hat-trick in the Candy Man Plate. Travelling easily in third behind Ivanova and Wedding Gift till coming into the home stretch, Happy Guy made his way between them and drew clear. Jerrell trailed the field till the last 100 metres and warmed up very late to finish a notable second. Wedding Gift and Vijay Vidyut filled the frame in that order.

Satheesh completed a double with his 4 year old filly Paying Guest who had remained a maiden after 16 starts finally coming good in the lower division of the Top Most Plate. Paying Guest took a good jump from the outermost draw and led from the wide outside. Concours slipped in towards the inside approaching the last 600 metres and Paying Guest relaxed comfortably in second. With a furlong left from home Paying Guest regained the lead without much fuss and stretched out with ease. Royal Opportunity and Squanderers Square finished third and fourth respectively.

J.Silvester trained The Da Vinci Code (Hammerstein-O’Valley) winless from twenty starts won the higher division of the Top Most Plate, the concluding race of the day. Improving from the outside The Da Vinci Code headed to the front inside the last 150 metres and held on from an erratic See My Style. Colorful finished third. Guiding Spirit was withdrawn near the starting gates.
