Mr Joseph Thomas & trainer Z Darashah leading Keturah (Y S Srinath Up), winner of The Bangalore Turf Club Trophy

Jockey Y.S.Srinath who rode a treble on Derby day at Mysore also made entry into the privileged 1000 Club, when he rode his first winner of the day Speed Hawk in the Royal Calcutta Turf Club Trophy. His other two winners were Keturah and Cash is King. The other professionals who made hay on a wet afternoon were trainers Prasanna Kumar and Md Sajid Qureshi who saddled a double each while jockey T.S.Jodha also scored a brace.

Keturah (Burden of Proof-Astrodance / Kunigal Stud) from the stables of Zareer Darashah won the Bangalore Turf Club Trophy, a seven furlongs race for horses rated 80 and above. Off to a good start, Keturah was in front quickly and preferred to sit second when Nabisco rushed to the lead within the first furlong. Rounding the final turn Keturah made a swift move to take charge and drew clear with jockey Y.S.Srinath having the luxury of easing up the filly well before the winning post. IM Different finished on to be the runner-up ahead of Diamonite and Secret Punch.

Warren Singh trained Speed Hawk (Mathematician-Spark of Elegance) bred privately by Dr.H.Mirza scored an impressive win in the Royal Calcutta Turf Club Trophy. The bay gelding who had won his last start as a maiden trounced the field to complete an encore. Forest Tern led the field tracked closely by Spiritofchartwell. Speed Hawk was positioned beautifully in third about three lengths adrift. Coming into the last 400 metres Srinath tried to get Speed Hawk from around the two runners in front but was quick to change course towards the inner path when Spiritofchartwell started to veer out. Speed Hawk forged ahead with ease and stretched out effortlessly by 5 ½ lengths. Forest Tern, Guapo and Hector filled the judge’s frame. Why Should I was a non-starter in the race.

Srinath then piloted Md Sajid Qureshi trained Cash is King (Serious Spender-Song of Freedom / Yeravada Stud) picked up the division I of the Madras Race Club Trophy. Sunday Cruz set off on a start to finish mission with Cash is King in chase from the start. Inside the last 300 metres Sunday Cruz was not showing any signs of tiring out and Y.S.Srinath had to work hard on Cash is King to finally surge ahead in front of the grand stand. Icepick Willie improved late to take the third spot. Arun was withdrawn on veterinary grounds.

Trainer Qureshi started off the day with another of his Mumbai import Winged King (Black Cash-Dungeon Princess / Equus Stud) staying ahead by a ‘short-head’in the lower division of the Madras Race Club Trophy, after a stirring duel with Delta Delight throughout the last 200 metres. Delta Delight set out on a start to finish bid with Zamindar in chase all the way till the top of the straight. Inside the last 400 metres Zamindar faded out and Winged King slipped in quickly to throw a challenge from the outside. Winged King went slightly ahead approaching the last furlong and with Delta Delight fighting back, a duel ensued. Jockey M.Prabhakaran and Winged King were a shade in front of Delta Delight at the wire. Inspirator was third seven lengths adrift.

Trainer Prasanna Kumar scored his double through The Muse and Amistad both well backed favourites. Amistad (Glory of Dancer-Dynasty / Nanoli Stud) won the Hyderabad Race Club Trophy. Racing in about third behind Click and Absolute Brave till the last 600 metres, Amistad improved to move alongside Absolute Brave even as Click packed off. The two were involved in a keen tussle and Amistad shrugged off Absolute Brave with about 100 metres left from home. Strike The Stars ran all over the place and finally flashed on late into the scene to finish second half a length behind. Aumento began to move with a flourish from the wide outside and covered lot of ground to finish in the money. It would be prudent to have a bet on Aumento when he races next.

The Muse (Mischevious Music-Tal / Pratap Stud) justified the favouritism in a vconvincing fashion in the higher division of the R.W.I.T.C.Trophy. Tracking the early leader Bourbon Street till passing the 500 metres board, The Muse headed to the front very smoothly and jockey T.S.Jodha began to ease her up well before the winning post after repeatedly looking back. Hackett improved to be second while Miss International and Novel Approach finished third and fourth respectively. Simpleton and Scenic Blast were withdrawn before the race.

Bipin V Salvi trained Queen’s Cruise (Sizzling Melody-Special One / Dolphin Stud) beat the hot favourite Triple Victory in one of the closest finishes of the season in the Delhi Race Club Trophy. Their fight started right from the start with Triple Victory along the fence and Queen’s Cruise from the outside. As they came into the last 200 metres they began to go hammer and tongs with their heads bobbling with every stride. Queen’s Cruise ridden by D.Gnaneshwar edged out Triple Victory at the wire by a paper thin margin. Danube rushed in late with an effort just enough to finish third. Amanda was permitted to be withdrawn on veterinary grounds.

Amit Cady trained Catch The Eye (Ikthyar-Inventive / Nanoli Stud) made it a start to finish affair in the lower division of the R.W.I.T.C.Trophy, the concluding race of the day. Thejaguar moved alongside approaching the distance post with a threatening run but Catch The Eye picked up speed and moved away to spare 2 ½ at the finish. Snow Angel and Starstruck closed up to be third and fourth respectively behind Thejaguar in a close finish.
